Yes, Core 2 Duo's were codenamed or "dubbed" Conroe

For C2D, may I suggest the Asus P5W DH Deluxe for overclocking, but if you're not into the whole overclocking thing then I suggest the Asus P5B Deluxe

Eh, it'll be a few months before they come out, yes major manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD will be producing DX10 gpu's

        Re: New Comp help!!!

feh, I would just go for the build now and get DX10 when you really need it. And the DS3 from Gigabyte is turning out to be a really great motherboard for Core 2 Duo

As for the Conroe/Core 2 Duo thing, Conroe is the name of the core for a couple of the Core 2 Duos, the ones with 4mb of L2 cache (e6600, e6700, x6800). Allendale is actually the name of the core for the other two Core 2 Duos which have only 2mb L2 cache (e6300, e6400).

As for memory, the g.skill memory with an HZ ending in the model number is the sweet spot for overclocking Core 2 Duo. People have been getting their motherboards up to 450fsb (and higher) with that memory. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

Any of the X1800's/X1900's should keep you on the high settings for now with the latest games, and they're much cheaper now than when they first came out ($450+ then, <$400 now), great deal if you ask me, and then when you feel like jumping on the DX10 wagon, you can probably find one cheap after you wait a little while after they come out....

I'd go with the x1900xt if you're willing to spend $310 after MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102025

Otherwise I'd go with a 7900gt, which go for about $240 after MIR.. but the x1900xt is a lot better

The DS3 and the P5W DH Deluxe are at two different price points... and looking at xtremesystems you will see that most people would recommend getting the DS3 if the 975 is too expensive.

                      Well, you forgot a PSU
There are a couple motherboards around $150 that will be fine unless you are doing hardcore overclocking

Please put links under the products, it makes it easier
