Well, stock, it should be running at 2.2, so ill bet you could easily hit 2.4 or 2.5 with stable temps.
Given you have an nforce3 or above mobo, you can run this little app from nvidia and itll automatically optimize and overclock your whole system safely, because i dont think youd really want to go through bios to set the voltages. I ran this app and it gave me better ram timings, higher pci-e bus speed, faster ram speed, and made my amd 3500 go from 2.2ghz to 2.5.

Its an MSI K8n SLI N force 4 ---not a platinum edition ..

If it does work what speed increase will i find ?

Well it really depends when it was manufactured.
Ex. i HAve an Opty 170, i can get mine to 2.6 at stock voltages, but somepeople can only get theirs too 2.2. Some overclock better then others. If you plan on putting a new heat sink on, write down what it says on it (the numbers) and i'll see what i can find out other people are getting. Did you burn it in?.

By burning it in properly you can get higher o/c's at stock voltage or lower( it will run cooler and last longer). Also, tell me what kind of memory you have, it usually limits your o/c unless you put it on a devider. I have mine on a 1:1 devider at 265 right now, but i might put it on a devider, making the ram run slower but increasing the speed of my cpu, because i know i can get it to atleast 2.8.

Personally I don't like nTune. I use the AI Booster software that came with my Asus Mobo. Its not the best for extreme overclocking, but I run my liquid cooled 4200+ at 2.4, which suits me just fine. I know it can go higher, but whatever.

Yes, you can roll it back, and you can set it to load the changed settings in different circumstances, like you can make it overclock everything as soon as you start bf2, then you can set it to put everything to stock speeds when the cpu is at idle speeds, and so on. And dont worry, nothing will go boom.

Did you call me??? First off, congrats on picking one of the best mobo manufacturers when it comes to overclocking. I'm not familiar with your board but your 4200 should easily run at 2.5. Second, if you are going to overclock, do so by using the mobo BIOS. Best way IMO. Good luck.

IMHO overclocking is not worth it.

Ok guys i have just run Ntune and have got he following results ,

                      Adjusting FSB(CPU BUS ) 201 MHZ to 212MHZ +5%

                      ADJUSTING MEM TIMINGS
                      TRAS 8
                      TRCD 3
                      TRP 3

                      ADJUSTING AGP/PCI-E-BUS 2500MHZ to 2850MHZ +14%

                      AGJUSTING GPU 2D CORE

                      CLOCK 275MHZ to 275MHZ +0%

                      AGJUSTING GPU 3D CORE

                      CLOCK 665MHZ to 665MHZ +0%

                      ADJUSTING GPU MEMERORY 800MHZ to 816MHZ +2%

Can someone tell me what all this means and where i can improve my system ?

Did you use coarse tune or fine tune. Those settings aren't the full potential of your setup, unless you don't have enough cooling, then high temps will limit what you can OC.

They were Coarse settings , ie quick tune 20 mins .
