    Get Help? PLEASE Respond Afterwards!

    [rant]

It's very frustrating for people who go out of their way to help someone with a problem, only to be left hanging on whether or not the suggestion helped.

    Poster - "This happens"
    Reply 1 - "Try this"
Reply 2 - "Same with me, I did this"
Reply 3 - "Here's some other posts about it"

Then NOTHING. The poster never comes back with an update.

Please, if you have an issue resolved here OR elsewhere, please - Oh PLEASE post a reply explaining what you did to fix the problem.

It really helps others who might have the same issues.

i always assume that when they get help or solve it on their own, they dont need to rebump their thread just to say thank u..and then it gets corny when other ppl say ur welcome and for me, when i make a therad i tend to monitor it carefully until it gets lost

          But, which solution worked?

Those are the posts that really get me. Give someone several options to resolve their problems, then never hear from them again.

Was one of the posted solutions the correct one? Did they fix the problem with other information??

I agree the "thanks" part is a bit corney... but acknowledging the solution certainly isn't.

Hardy, har. You assume that somebody looking for an answer would use the search function (when it works), in order to find a solution that actually resolved a problem, as evidenced by a thread concluded, "Yippeee! I did exactly this _________, as suggested by DosX, and it worked!"

For the most part, this is a false assumption. Nobody searches because:

            a) everyone has a slightly different system
            b) the search results turn up 25,000 "answers"
            c) they're 14 years old, and they assume that EVERY problem is unique and special to them
            d) what's a search function?

A rule of thumb in support forums and in life: Never do anyone a favor expecting something in return, whether that's gratitude, simple feedback, or anything.

That way, you'll have fewer dissapointments in life.
