Two Video Cards.

I think I'd like to get a second GeForce7600GT, how much of a difference would I notice and can I have different cards going or do they need to be the same?
Also would it be worth it with my x2 3800 AMD processor? It's a 2.0MHZ but can be overclocked if I had to do it.

Opinions? Facts? Let's hear them all.

i think the motherboard has to be SLi compatible and the same with the cards

Cards must be matched to run SLI, as far as preformance that all depends on the size of your monitor and the rez you want to use. SLI is for large screens and very high rez's on a small monitor (19" & below) and rez 1280x960 & below you wont see much of a difference.

This is 100% correct. If you SLI with only a 19"LCD @1280x1024, you can expect only about a 20% increase in performance, and I've read in some cases, it can hinder performance as well. Rule of thumb: SLI=HIGH RES.

going to need a new motherboard also..but you will see a little performance.
