The $565 Upgrade.

Say I had $565. I need to upgrade my computer with it.

I will certainly need a new case and mobo, no doubt.

Here's the parts I can recycle. I can't recycle my CPU, it's a socket 478, nor my graphics card, because it sucks:

2 512MB sticks of PC3200
1 SB Live!
My Hard Drive and XP installation
Monitor, speakers, keyboard, etc.
Disc Drives

So what parts should I buy?

that's a good start, please specify if you're going to make the jump to dual core, because in that case, you'd need new ram since the newer mobos are DDR2 800/667

I might wait on the GPU until DirectX 10, in which case I will buy a mid range one (simiar to 7600GT)

As for dual core, maybe if Conroe makes the prices go down a bit more. Keep in mind that I only have a limited amount of money to spend.

this goes for around $90 but this rebate brings it down to $40 it has 2x120mm fans, all aluminum case and a nice lookin window just can't beat that.

picking up the 7600gt instead of the x1600xt is easily doable if you go for this rebate

Only thing I that really jumps out at me that I'd change in everec's layout is the GPU. The x1600 lineup in any version is kind of, well, puny. If you only want to pay about $120 for a video card to have some left over, I'd recommend this card:

over the x1600XT any day. And with the $30 rebate, it's only five dollars more.

lol ya you should prolly look into that x850 hedgehog put up. great price/performance on it. I'm not familiar with ati's cards just saw the x1600xt when I was browsing the egg a couple days back.
