I'm starting to "solve" the mystery here...

I assume this birthday of his is not anytime soon...which explains why he is now saying he is keeping his orginal old 9550 GPU...which further explains the choices he made.

1) If he can't afford to buy all those items on day one, then he has to do the obsolete upgrading he linked us to, even though it is a total waste of money.

2) If he IS planning on buying all of those items on the same day, then my original statement remains: BAD CHOICES.

I am pushing towards option 1 at this point though. Don't even bother upgrading anything if you can't do it all. The fact that you need a CPU/mobo though clearly says you must do everything.

Don't let a mere 2x512 of ram(less than $50 value) and an old outdated not-so-good-anymore GPU(also less than $50 value) force you into making this enormous mistake.

Basically you're going to totally screw yourself into half the computer you can get for the same price...all because of $100 worth of obsolete current items(ram/GPU).

Do it all or nothing.

bakit? lol these guys here are all right, AGP is pretty much dead, buying a PCI-E mobo will help you down the road later, and you'd be able to upgrade easier at a later date instead of buying a whole new mobo/gpu/cpu/ram/etc all over again. If you MUST upgrade now, i.e. your comp blew up or mobo/hd dead, then buy the new system now, but if you're comp is still working I suggest you save up about some more money and buy the system then. I myself have been using the same pc for 4 years now (of course I have upgraded over the years), but after saving up some money, I'm putting that money towards a new conroe system, and I'll be able to upgrade with more ram/better gpu/kentsfield quad core later on if I must. So...long story short, think about the future, don't waste your mula on a dying "race" (AGP)..AM2/dual core + PCI-E is the way to go. woot

im done.

P.S. sound card isn't needed, integrated sound these days are sufficient for games/music

So far we are at $413 if you get the pc6400 ram, or $387 if you get the pc5400 ram. That leaves around $110 for your GPU card...so we're gonna have you mow an extra lawn or two or do something to make a few more dollars for this:

Totals come to:
$642 - pc6400 ram + 7900gt(the most expensive option)
$616 - pc5400 ram + 7900gt

$592 - pc6400 ram + x1900gt

Your choice of that dual core s939 was a good one this time, as you can see I picked the exact same CPU, just AM2 instead and only $4 more. But what I have selected for you here gives you a couple extra upgrade options later on.

1) DDR2 which can be used on an Intel next time if you want(new mobo needed though, but possible), as well as the fact that I managed to squeeze it into your theoretical budget using the money saved on not only a better video card, but cheaper :)

2) AM2 socket over the socket939. AMD will not make any new CPU's for s939 except for the lesser Semprons. AM2 is new and will definately have plently more CPU's for your next upgrade.

So, if you really can't squeeze just a few more bucks out for any of the 4 price options I came up with. And you do get that socket939 instead and keep your ram a little longer(which will make an awesome comp no doubt!!)...

...at least change the video card to one of the better and cheaper ones I found that you didn't even consider could possibly be cheaper
No 7800gt for you...you're getting a 7900gt instead! or the x1900gt!

if the prices on the video cards expires by the time you order...just post here the night before and I'll find the new deal. You'd be suprised how often the better cards get rebated. There are x1800xt's for just over $200, and x1900XT's for $330 for example, both hugely discounted.

many people tell me that the eVGA Geforce 7900GT KO Superclocked is verrrrry good these days. If your willing to spend a couple bucks more, this one won't let you down. It should last you a while before you purchase a new GPU. It's a bang for your buck. Your call.
