Error message on LAN

When i play bf2 on LAN with my brother, my brother's computer crashes with an error message saying something like "cannot read command 9x00354 press OK to terminate the program press cancel to debug the program" or something to that extent. What is causing this problem? it doesnt happen in singleplayer only in LAN. im guessing it could be the network card but im not sure.
the pc is:
3.0 ghz dual core
512mb ram
fx5200

while this is an old system it runs bf2 pretty well on low settings.

Probably the 512MB of RAM. BF2 is a RAM magnet.

I was able to finish a full game on LAN with no crashing, but when i started another one, the pc crashed agian but this time did not give any message whatsoever. I really need to get this problem fixed ASAP. if the dmp file can help let me know and ill upload it.

a couple of upgrades wouldn't hurt

would a ram upgrade be enough. i cant buy a new video card because im buying a whole new computer and selling that one, so a video card would be a waste of money.
