mouse buttons do not registering

i just bought a new mouse and it has a few extra buttons on it, and i want to make it so i can hold down one to talk with VOIP, instead of pressing 'b'. but when i select it in the controls menu in bf2, nothing happens when i press the button. it doesnt work with the other button either. HELP! y wont these work?

I'm not sure if BF2 will pick up all those buttons. I have a logitech mediaplay mouse, and I tried to map some functions to the media buttons (volume -/+, fwd, rev, play) and nada. BF2 just ignores said input.

Having said that, are there any specific drivers the mouse needs? Have you checked the mfg's website for an updated version?

NOBODY BUY THIS MOUSE!!! IT IS THE BIGGEST PIECE OF WORTHLESS SH*T I HAVE EVER OWNED! since i started using it last night, i have had to restart the computer 12 times (in less than an hour). the mouse will just freeze and the pointer will not move. well, i guess thats what u get for buying a 12$ mouse. im gonna spend some more money and buy a better mouse
anyone have any suggestion of a gaming mouse that isnt real expensive that bf2 will register its extra buttons?

I like the mediaplay--it has plenty of working buttons (just not the media-spefic ones). The side buttons work (got them mapped to pistol/knife), the scroll wheel "button" works, and (I think, have to check though) the scroll wheel "tilt buttons" also work. The mouse is a little small, but comfortable for me.

I've also used the logitech cordless mx duo setup. That was s really nice gaming mouse (mx700 was the model, I believe). You'll probably find that most folks prefer logitech mice--the ergonomics for gaming mice have stayed roughly the same since the mx500 (maybe even a couple generations back) new g15 has the same ergonomics as the mx700, but is laser based.
