Ok, my new setup will be SLI ready, so, Ive read alot of info online about it but is it really that much better, say, than having one BFG 7900GT? I've read in some cases it's only 20% increase. I'm not spending the money on another card for 20% increase. Can one of you SLI freaks confirm this?
Dont know about how big a preformance boost you will get but general 2 graphics cards are better than one.
Its not worth the money though if my 7800GT can play BF2 all on high then your 7900GT should play BF2 on all high with great FPS why would you need another graphics card if your graphics cant be improved any more.
It is essential on larger (high res) monitors for gaming, however at lower res's it can sometimes hurt performance.
It is inevitable that polygon limits will rise in future games which may make sli more beneficial to more standard resolutions however sli is not a means of future proofing and you are forever stuck with the cards limitations no matter how many you put in a machine.
The best way of deciding if its for you is to see whether you can run everything on high at your desired resolution on a single card with good fps- although in some cases low fps may be related to a bottleneck elsewhere such as ram or processor which are far better places to be throwing money at.
I run SLI, and I love it. To me, its a bit better of a deal, since I can find two cards that have been in the market a bit longer and pay less than a top of the line graphics card, and still get a little better performance. My computer is still pretty new, so I cant comment much on it, but I have never had a problem playing all the games I have on max resolution and high refresh rates.
Im running two 7600 GS cards. Picked them up for $120 each on sale. Two 256MB cards compared to a 512 seems like a sweet deal to me. The cards dont have the GPU cooling fans, just the block that pulls heat away, but my system cooling is pretty good, so heat isnt an issue for me.
