Amazing rig but crash to desktop... wtf

Alright I just built a new computer with everything you could imagine and Battlefield 2 just crashes to desktop right when I start it. When I go to start it, it pauses with a black screen for a minute then back to desktop. I've tried changing the startup refresh rate in the Video.con file and I've also tried changing the monitor to a Plug and Play monitor, but I have had no success. I have updated all the drivers, flash my bios, reinstalled the game, etc. Please help me spot the problem.

all other games work perfectly and i have about 14 of the newest games install including Prey, Rainbow6:Lockdown, CoD2, WoW, GR: Advanded Warfighter.... this is the only one that doesnt work.... i dont have antivirus and i dont have a software firewall. all drivers are up to date. no other programs running the background

bought it on CyberPowerPC.com it cost me about 3500$ with professional installation, monitor, speakers, tons of accessories, rush delivery, rush processing/assembly.

as far as the 4gb RAM.... lol yeah only thing that sucks is Windows only takes advantage of 2.5gb of it.... I'd have to update to Windows x64 in order to do that but not much **** is supported in x64

You do realise that "crash to desktop" is a well known flaw of the 1.3 Patch. Have you applied this patch?

I've got a very similar machine to yours, (2 7800GTX's, Dual Core 4400+, 2Gb RAM) and I get them from time to time. Last night I got 8 crash to desktop's in a row. That's been the worst.

i do realize this but i know there are several different factors of this. I have applied patch 1.3 but the thing is i cant even get into the game. It crashes to the desktop before I get to anything

DiD you use the incremental patch or full....I had the same issue and well i downloaded the full ,.all 480 mb of it and installed it and ...its worked great...if you have done the full um i dunno what to tell ya uninstall and reinstall in this order..bf2,special forces,1.3 patch Full,then euro forces and armored fury.... I have a prett similar rig without the sli 7900s

i used the full 1.3 patch, did'nt even install special forces, mainly cus i never played the mod

I successfully managed to start up the game after reinstalling it several different ways.... it seams as though the game would only run without Special Forces installed. I have reinstalled this game almost 4 times .... can't believe i didnt try this earlier. Thanks everyone for the help.

I have a buddy that just rebuilt his PC and had to reinstall. He is getting the exact same behaviour you describe. What order worked for you?

i got that same exact problem, everytime i opened my battlefield 2.....first it would go through all the way passed the video then when it said to pick from multiplayer or online, right away it just went black, people told me its from my rig not handling the game, which i think its right cuz i have p4 1.4 ghz, 1gb of ram, and ati radeon 9250 128mb.....old computer....but now it doesnt even go through.....just brings up b2 start-up screen and flashes to a black screen then just goes back to desktop

when u guys uninstall do u remove your profiles?..what usually works is deleting the battlefield2 folder in your my documents folder..which keeps all your settings..always works for me
