        Re: Configuration Question

No problem...it's one of THE most commonly asked questions here.

But seriously..don't buy a new right for BF2 without putting 2 GB of RAM in...the stutter would drive you nuts with just 1 GB with all options maxxed

Get a better video card. That 512MB ram is a marketing gimmick due to cheap ram, not an engineering advantage. An x850xt or 6600/6800 series would be a better choice if you're going for budget/performance. If you can spend a little more, go with an x1800xt or x1900xt or a 7800/7900gt.

Or get the best of both worlds--buy the cheaper video card now, and wait for the more higher-end ones to take a deep price cut after Vista and DX10 cards start shipping.

Personally (for the cash) I like either one of these, and they will deliver very good gaming performance:

          x850xt:
Buy Open Box: SAPPHIRE Radeon X850XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card 100106L with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Once you know, you Newegg!

          6600gt:
Buy Open Box: ASUS GeForce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Video Card EN6600GT/TD/128 with fast shipping and top-rated customer service. Once you know, you Newegg!

Edit: Talus is right about the RAM. Double it--this extra RAM actually counts, as opposed to the 512mb on the x1600.

Well the PC im buying is second hand... so i'll just have to live with it and wait till i get a better one. But i believe the system is AGP im not sure.

I was under the impression you were buying a new pc...

That x1600pro isn't bad for an AGP card. You would still get better performance out of an x850xt and (maybe) an overclocked 6600gt. Both of those cards come in AGP flavors, but I don't know if you will find a new one for a decent price anymore.

Have you considered swapping MOBO's? You could sell that x1600 for enough on Ebay to buy a decent PCI-e mobo, and then you'd just need a new video card. I don't know if I'd do that, but its just a thought.

With 1 gig, you can still play everything on high,m but textures needs to be put on medium.

Ok i bought another PC instead of the one above... it belonged to a member of Exit Eleven that got 2nd with the world championship BF2.

                  Here are the specs:

                  AMD64 3200+
                  Asus A8n Nforce4 SLI Deluxe
                  Asus 7800GT 256 MB
                  2048 CL 2.5 DDR
                  250gig HD @ 7200 RPM

If it's possible i would like your opinion again.

                  Thanks allot,

It will run all high at 1280x1024 with smooth frames.

Yes its a good pc. I have about the same cept for the video card. I have a 7600GT and I run 1280x1024 on all high with 40-70 fps, so you will get a little bit better
