Wel, I think I'm finally gonna build my AMD 64 system. Do I have to run Windows XP X64 edtion or can I run XP Pro.

You can run either, just X64 will take full advantage of the 64-bit computing.

jus on a side note. will using win xp 64 on an amd 64 actually improve the performance. i dont have the x64 version, only the 32bit version. so if i install the 32bit win xp on an amd 64 system, is there was a performance penalty on bf2 for that.

I'm doing the same thing actually, now that conroe is coming and prices will drop, Im getting an AMD 64 X2 4800+ to replace my half-alive 3200+ Barton. Can't wait for these price cuts. The speed increase is going to be awesome.

I have to under-clock my current processor because I have a bad voltage regulator on my motherboard... lol.

1.8 ghz is too too too slow.

I'm doing the same thing actually, now that conroe is coming and prices will drop, Im getting an AMD 64 X2 4800+ to replace my half-alive 3200+ Barton. Can't wait for these price cuts. The speed increase is going to be awesome.

1.8 ghz is too too too slow.

How much for the 4800+? For about 183$ when the E6300 is out soon you can get a cheap CPU that will match performance and even beat it.

One issue with XP 64 is just like when Windows 2000 came out, drivers are hard to come by.

Vista on any edition will provide 64 and 32 bit support on the same cd, which will be good.

How much for the 4800+? For about 183$ when the E6300 is out soon you can get a cheap CPU that will match performance and even beat it.

I've already got 2GB of PC3200 DDR that wont work with a Conroe.

I've already got a nice AGP Video card that wont work with 99.9999999% of Conroe motherboards.

If I go with the Conroe thats 2 more gigs of RAM and a motherboard (which I've yet to see one less than $150 and most are around $200+) Not to mention $300 for a new video card (PCIe)

The AMD option will save me a ton of money I'd much rather spend on putting a deck onto the back of my house.

AMD for me until my next TOTAL system overhaul.

Get the X2 5000 for $282 US instead

I migrated last year from a XP 2600-M to a X2 4800 and believe me the difference will blow you away.

On topic:
I used both 32bit and 64bit XP but I am back to 32 for now as quite a few programs don't work with 64bit and the performance difference wasn't to big

Actually there is a motherboard out I saw it on newegg a few days ago. It supports the conroe DDR1 PC3200 and has an AGP 8X slot :)

I saw a 775 motherboard with an AGP slot too but it doesnt support Conroe...

Ok, guys, I didn't want to start a new thread for this since it pertains to the system I'm going to build. I've been looking at MOBO's and quite frankly my head hurts. I've decided to go with AMD Athlon 64X2 3800+(939), and I want to know what the best board is. More info: I've also decided to go with BFG Tech 7900GT 16PCIE. One requirement I need for the board is SLI, but that will be in the future. So, I appreciate everyones input on what the most kick *** mobo is.
