Nvidia Drivers will not extract.. PLEASE HELP :(

    Hi everyone,

I am having what sems to be a real problem here.

Download Latest Nvidia drivers (Forceware and Display)
Both drivers give me errors when at the time that they try to extract themselves. The error says that the executable is corrupt and I need to re-download the file, check it's integrity and try again.

I have downloaded both drivers many many times and I still get the same error. Can someone please help me? My specs should be in my sig.

Cheers anf thanks in advance :)

Are you using a dowload accelerator, or some type of third party download software?

This could be something that is corrupting the file download.

Good question and NO. One thing though. Once the file is done I get the pop up and try to click on RUN, then I get an error that the file is not safe and Windows will not open it or something like that., Now if I double click on the file directly, it will try to extract until I get the error I was telling you about. I've never had this problem before so I am really stumped here. Very strange...

      Cheers and Thanks

Where are you downloading them from? Maybe try a different site/mirror.

          Also from Nvidia's Installation Hints:

          * "Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.

          * Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

          * Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

Does the second hint apply to you situation?

          Also,

Are you downloading an .exe or a compressed file?

If it's a compressed file try making a temporary folder, and instead of double clicking the icon in your folder, right click and and extract it to the temporary folder you just created. Then click on the .exe file in that temporary folder.

If it's an .exe it should just begin the install process when you double click it.

This is the official driver start page:

          Nvidia Downloads

Go throught the motions there and pick the proper category, card type, and O.S you are using.

Is this where you are getting the file from?

This stuff might be obvious and downright insulting since you do seem to know what your doing. But figured I just eliminate the easiest stuff first.

          Some other thoughts...

If it's not a problem that Nvidia can predict, it could be a problem with your O.S itself, or possibly your adminstrative access. Is the user ID you use on your computer an adminstrative one? Do you have problems opening any other files that normally you think should not be a problem?

          Good Luck...

OK, tried installing the file I downloaded off the nvidia link you gave me and got this error (not really surprised)

"The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify it's integrity and try again"

            Very bizarre!!!

and yes, i had my Symantec Anti Virus disabled. Defwatch and RTVscan.exe

            Well boys and girls,

Still a no go on the files... I also tried the omega drivers and I get the same error. Now if I try to extract some other .rar or .zip files it happens no problem. It seems to only happen with the Graphics and Platform drivers. Can anyone help??? I'm trying to avoid the day long re-format shuffle :)

            Anyone???? Bueller?... Bueller?

Entered your error message into a few Google categories and found this:

              TG Forums Driver Woes

At the end of the thread a poster suggests not using FireFox.

It's a long shot, but if your using FireFox, try downloading the drivers with IE, or another browser.

It's easy enough to give a shot and won't take much time.

That's all I can think of other then a virus, or a problem with your O.S itself.

              Again, good luck.

I have had that happen before with other programs, have not been able to fix it. Did you try to repair windows with the installation CD maybe there's something wrong with the os

                    Folks,

I reformatted my HD and reinstalled everything and it is still doing the same thing. I think there's a problem with the Nvidia website because I can open the drivers I had backed up a few months ago but the latest display drivers as well as platform drivers from their website DO NOT extract. Can anyone else please confirm this for me. Just download the drivers and right click on the file and extract it to your desktop or wherever. If you can do it successfully then it must be something on this end, ifnot. It means I'm not losing my mind and they are $hit files.

                    Cheers and Thanks :)
