Re: western digital or maxtor?
Consider
Seek Time?
Read/write?
Buffer?
NDQ or non NDQ?
Cost per megabyte?
SATA? SATA150? SATA 3.0? IDE?
RAID? Regular? External? iRAM?
Read reviews left by buyers on sites like Newegg and consider the negatives along with the positives.
Research the drives as far as possible before making what you think is good.
One drive may be good for me, but too crappy for another.

Re: western digital or maxtor?
its NCQ, not NDQ. and, ya, its good to read reviews. though not by buyers, cos they might be maxtor or WD staff anyway, but by benchmarks. google for benchmarks on those hard drives. its better to see for yuorself hwo weel they really perform in those tests.Originally posted by Heavy552(AWG)NDQ or non NDQ?

Re: western digital or maxtor?
I have both a Western Digital and a Maxtor in this computer, and they both work excellent. Whichever one you go with, I'm sure you'll be happy.

Re: western digital or maxtor?
Ive had a set of Maxtors for years on the computers.
I probably will be replacing them with newer drives around Christmas.

Re: western digital or maxtor?
I personally think that they're both fine, but Western Digital has a better reputation as far as reliability goes.
Seagate is by far the best, go for that if you don't have any reason not to.
Yes, Western Digital is currently the only company making the enthusiast 10K RPM Raptor harddrives. They're quite a forward-looking company, though get surpassed by Seagate in reliability.
