Sound Static.

Hey all, as I’ve just won that headset here I’ve got an issue that I’ve been able to ignore but I would like it gone completely so I can enjoy that headset fully if I actually get it. Fingers crossed as it seems to good to be true.

Anyway my rig is my sig so that’s sorted. The issue; crackling in my speakers. How do I get rid of that? It only does it when I play BF2 and others have the same problem so how do I kill that sound static?

sound static is most likely becos of low signal to noise ratio. ie. there is more noise than sound signals going to your speakers.
ie. get a new speaker, your current speaker is getting old.

That headset is not two months old and it only happens if I play Bf and with EAX on it's even worse.

yeah , are you using intergrated sound or a cheapy sound card? might want to upgrade to something better.

Integrated sound and I have no idea what it is, how do I find out?

integrated is sound is not very good. try getting a sound card. sound blaster or x-fi will be gd.

How much are they and can I just swap it out just like that??

erm, im not sure how much it might cost in the US, could try newegg, alot of peeps go there for stuff.
im not sure why it happens in bf only. but im sure its gonna be a gd long term sound investment for your pc to get a new sound card.

You just need to update your AC'97 audio driver and the crackling will 98% go away...

You have a Realtek ALC850 for onboard sound, same as me. Go here:

Get the appropriate driver for your O/S(should be the 5th from top)...the executable version, not the zip.

Goto Control Panel, Add/Remove programs, remove the Realtek AC'97 driver
restart computer
Install new driver
restart computer

Updating your drivers will NOT work. You have to install a soundcard. I found a Creative Soundblaster Live card on ebay for 5.00 and it works great. I had the same problem and I telling you, you have to disable your onboard sound in your bios and plug in a sound card. Only fix.

I have tried 2 different drivers in the 1+ year BF2 has been out. Both worked as I typed...98% effective in removing crackling. I did this driver change the first week I got my computer and have once again...seen 98% success in EVERY game I have played.

Has it occured to you that maybe you personally were unable to fix your sound while others may have in fact fixed it? You probably tried using drivers from your mobo makers website rather then Realtek directly in your failed case.

Surely my FREE method should be attempted first regardless of who's fix works?

How can you so surely announce it won't work...when someone clearly confirmed it can and does work using identical hardware? Some call that ignorance.

Well, the 2% only occurs during 3rd person view when in an airplane...and only sometimes. So the less I fly, I guess it comes closer to 100%.

I have recently added the Logitech z5500's to my onboard...sounds awesome using coax for movies, analog for surround games.
There isn't a "need" to buy a sound card unless a person wants more than EAX 2.0, which is all our onboard can do.

That is the only thing a "cheap" sound card can offer over onboard sound. Onboard isn't half as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Roger that. No need for more flaming. There are well known problems with on board AC97 audio. Shutting it down and using a sound card is the BEST fix.:)
