I was wrong in this context but not overall..You cant really get a decent motherboard+graphics card combo for $200....

ASUS makes good motherboards just not for that price

Hey, here is my current gaming rig:

Asus Deluxe AGP Motherboard
9800 XT 256MB AGP card
Athlon 3200+ 2.2ghz
1 Gigabyte of Corsair DDR2 Ram

Now, I'm limited to the AGP for now, but here are two things that I want, but I can only choose one. Which one will offer the most performance boost?

Powercolor Radeon x1600 512MB AGP Card.
or
1 gig Corsair Digital DDR2 RAM

im surprised nobody noticed there is a big mistake in his rig.
an AMD Athlon mobo which is still using agp cant possibly be using DDR2 ram. only the new AM2 boards use DDR2 ram. either this guy is lying or he just doesnt know what mobo and ram he is using. please check your rig again. try dl CPU-z if u are not sure how to find out.

the x800xt is a pretty good card for bf2. I've got an AIW version and my frames are always playable with medium (high where it counts--geometries and view distance) eyecandy @ 1280x1024/85hz. I can go higher on the res, and lower on eyecandy to taste, and still get good framrates. If you get an x800 series, though, make sure it is the "xt" version. 16 pipelines, 500mhz core and 1000mhz memory make it a budget beast.

Are you sure that mobo you linked to would work with your current processor? And, for those of you saying, "that MOBO is CRAP!!!"--you've got to qualify that statement. Is it because it doesn't offer great overclocking? Because it falls apart? Because it's difficult to update the bios? Because some of the interfaces don't work out of the box?

Details, people. The man needs details. I've got a cheap ($60 at the time) ASUS p4s800mx (mATX) mobo that has been chugging along just fine for two years now.

But yeah--if you want to upgrade now, I'd suggest migrating components into a fresh MOBO and take the pci-e plunge. If you want to save and wait (and that's what I'd do if I was in your shoes, considering Conroe, DX10, and VISTA are just around the corner, and mfgs will be dumping (or at least heavily discounting) their "legacy" 7800/7900's and x1800/x1900's in Q4 '06.
