Pentium D or Pentium 4

I just recently bought a Pentium 4 631, but i was wondering if i made a bad choice, i saw these Pentium D's that are just about the same price such as this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116238 and i was wondering if i should have gotten the Pentium D or if my pentium 4 was a good choice. both have 64-bit and are socket 775, but the D does not have hyper-threding, but its is dual core, so ill let you guys decide.

If it was me, i would have gotten the D. If you can return it, and wait a couple of weeks and get a Intel Conroe cpu, you might have to also get a new mobo. But if you just want to upgrade your chip for now. Get a Pentium D if you can.

get the Pent D and it does have HT

i should know cause i have a pent D myself:) its faster and its HT cause its dual core p4 ht cpus

Sorry mate, but i dont think your mobo is compatible with Pentium D.

And to the other guys, Pentium D does not have HT, only the EE have HT. You might be confuse that you see two cores in the windows task manager. It is not because of HT, that is because Pentium D has two actual cores, not HT.

actually i check the Biostar site before you posted, (duh why didnt i do that earlier) and it said that it is dual core compatable

Really, cause that's what i also did. I'll go double check, i did look rather quick. I hope i am wrong that way you can get the dual core chip.
Which one is yours the P4M80 PRO-M7C
or the PT880 PRO-A7C

Cause the link you provided is for the A7C which it might not be dual core compatible, at least the website does not say that.

If is the first one, then yeah, it is compatable according to the website, i do recommend getting the latest bios before you pull out the single core cpu to change it for the dual core.

Well according to the Biostar website the M7C is dual core, but it does not say that about the A7C. You might want to try to call Biostar. But i dont think you actual motherboard is compatible with Pentium D chips.

uh why does my loading BIOS screen the one that displays when u start the computer say Pentinum 4 (Hyper-Threading) and even has a logo of P4 with H/T at the side?

If you have nothing usefull to say, dont say anything.

I take it something must be off with your bios. Technically the Pentium D is still a P4, but it should not have HT. When was the last time you updated your bios???
