    FPS problems with 7600GT

So my 7600gt came in this afternoon. I went home, uninstalled old drivers, ran driver cleaner pro, installed 84.21 drivers. I boot up the BF2 Demo, and go into singleplayer. I set everything to high, dynamic lights and shadows off, with 4x AA. I begin playing, and my FPS ranges from 40-70.

I'm thinking this is pretty sweet, so i go to test out multiplayer. Upon entering i find its kind of choppy, and its like a slideshow when i use TV missiles. My fps is between 18-20. Granted, the lowest ping server that i played was 200, with spikes into the 300-400's, but would that bring down my fps that much? These are 32 and 64 player maps.

EDIT: Just found out as ive been playing more, i'm getting random freeze ups, where the same sound is repeated over and over again, and it'll stay frozen for about 15 seconds. This is not only a BF2 issue, but i experienced it in CS as well. Would this be caused by overheating? PC Wizard displays my GPU temp to be at 57 degrees under full load.

    My pc specs are:

    Pentium 4 630 3.0ghz
    1 GB of DDR2

Online you will see a hit in performance, in SP your computer knows exactly whats going to happen next which gives it an advantage.
With textures and all set to high 1gb of ram may not be enough, you would see an improvement if you added another gb.

The lock ups may also be simply related to your computer running out of memory, could potentially be something more 'interesting' or possibly driver related but i wouldnt want to start guessing. If you added a new card it might be worth checking that you havent created any irq conflicts between graphics card and sound card.

GPU temp seems fine, mine are up in the 70's when i choose to punish them.

Sorry, forgot to mention that settings were low-medium when i went multiplayer, and toggled between 4x, 2x and 0 AA. Res is 1024x768.

And as for the IRQ conflict, it is the only other card im using, i have integrated sound.

Im going to guess it is your onboard sound hogging your CPU? Im not sure. Maybe buy a sound card to take the load off the CPU?

I dont think it should be enough to drop my fps from 40-70 to 18. The sound settings are on software too.

I go all low on multiplayer and have no problems with a Geforce 6200. And that's many times slower than your card.

In BF2, I think it's actually hard to tell the difference between some low and high settings.

300 ping is HIGH, many servers kick at 300 ping. Ping shouldn't cause FPS problems, just online lag, though. 200 ping is pretty much the threshold for quality online play, and many servers kick at that too.

And install the latest drivers, the 8x.xx ones are out of date.

            EDIT: Have you tried overclocking?

I was holding off on the newest ones because ive heard alot of problems from those. I'm willing to try anything right now though.

              The card comes factory overclocked.

Update: Just went to 91.31, and same thing, 15-20 fps. Weird thing is, no matter what settings i put it at, it just stays at 15-20 fps.

u put it on software? omg. no wonder u got such a big hit. software means the sound is made not from your onboard sound but the game itself renders it! change it to hardware. and try low first. should help alot. and 200 ping is way too high. u should try servers with 100 and below. and refresh a few times to confirm the average ping u get from that server becos bf2 server browser sucs.

Still 17 FPS. The problem is that with the BF2 Demo, the lowest ping server is like 175.

Underclock your video card that WILL help it did me but be warned if you have the Evga 7600GTKO it may be a bad card I had to return one of my 7600GT's due to a bad memory chip. Also many more bugs are known there should be a realese of a new 7600GTKO bios from evga sometime, But most you always hear about are their 7900GT's.... My card will still freeze up from time to time not on BF2, but only in titan quest so far.

But if it was the video card, wouldn't it run just as bad in singleplayer, and other games as well?

                          ummm cool?

Bought the game today, patched to 1.3, hoping the patch would help my fps. I booted it up, and its still low fps, but it seems like its locked, because it stays at 15.0/66.7 all the time. I tried game.lockfps 0, which didnt help anything at all. Then some extrememly heavy stuttering kicked in, which made it unbearably laggy. settings were all medium, 2x AA, dynamic shadows and lights off at 1024x768. This is really getting frustrating.

Just underclocked my video card to 560/1400, which didnt do anything, still locked dead at 15.0fps. Anyone have any ideas at all? Should i try rolling back to 1.2 and seeing what happens?

Also, i just downloaded PRMM, i figured i might get different performance in that game, but no, locked at 15.0 fps as well.

Also, if it came down to returning it, how would i know exactly what the problem with the card is?

Mine was locked at 15FPS when my CPU had CnQ on, it had clocked itself down to 1.2Ghz!
