1. What if the differnce between OEM and non OEM? am I going to be missing certains wires, discs, or anything else I need?

OEM usually saves you a few bucks by not giving you the retail packaging and all the accessories, software, cables and screws that you might otherwise get.

2. I heard that certain librarys/book stores sell extra Operating Systems cheap to students (I am one)... is this true? and would it be actual book stores or librarys

Usually the student store at a college that you are going to would be the place to purchase a student priced version of the OS. an OEM version of Windows XP should be about $150 regular price.

3. I realise my sound card is not very good for gaming, can anyone tell me a better one that will work with my speakers and cost under $70?

Check Ebay for a Sound Blaster Audigy. Many people unload those for half of what you are willing to pay.

4. Catching on the the differnt names of CD/DVDs and what not is not my thing at all... will my CD/DVD drive be able to play discs for games and drives for parts...

I believe the answer is yes but it also may be no. Could you rephrase your question as a question?

5. It seems like many parts require "drives", these are what lets the part work to its fullest I guess? will all parts I order come with these "drivers" or will I need to find them on the internet?

Both. Many will come with drivers but always check the internet for the manufacturers website to find the most recent version. Many times the package you purchase will have sat on it's shelf for up to half a year or more. Lots of software fixes can occur in that time. Take advantage of it.

6. Will my CPU (E6300) come with a fan off of newegg or will I need to buy one seperately?

OEM = no fan. Boxed = fan

7. Are the type of motherboards I need out yet? or when they come out can I get a good one for around $100 (if its like $200 I may just drop the whole Conroe idea)

The cutting edge of technology is covered in the green blood of those that go first. Pricing is what you find. If it's too expensive today, wait for a sale or a month. Both seem to radically effect pricing.

8. Will the AMD price cut follow Conroe (release on july 14th) - may need to know this if the Conroe mobo is too much

I just got back from the future. The price drops are for current technology and not the new stuff. They are still going to rake us over the coals on the pricing of the new materials as they know we are rabid dogs for faster equipment.

9. Is everything I have compatible?... will this part work with this part.. do I have enough power... will everything fit in the case... am I missing a wire... ect..

Yes.. no.... maybe...... Welcome to the world of build it yourself. Everything can be compatible. It depends on if you can make it behave or not. If things act funny, just say in a stern voice "Watch it mister!" and all will be ok. It's a good idea to have beer nearby if you are of age.

10. Is this ram chosen good with the Conroe motherboards, if not what type do I need?

Looks fine. The motherboard specs from the manufacturers website or the box of the motherboard would be best to guarantee that though.

11. Even if its more money (besides the sound card)... even a few bucks I can't spare it for something better.. - but if somehow there is a better product that also is CHEAPER than the parts I have selected let me know... cheaper + better = good

You are asking for free opinions. Let me know how that works out

12. What happens the first time you turn on that freshly built computer? and how do you hook up the OS so it'll work normaly..

You boot it off of your XP Install CD and it does the work for you. Then you install your motherboard and card drivers. Then you install your application software and games. Then you install updates.

13. Does the OS come with internet explorer, if not how do you get it?

The OS comes with IE and also Outlook express.

14. I've heard going on the Internet without a firewall/virus protector/spyware destoryer/ ect.... is a bad thing.. But to get those programs you need to go on the internet.. How exactly does that work?

Going on the internet day in and day out without protection and downloading everything in the world from flashy cursors to cute smileys is a way to get your computer to sing the viral blues fast. Just logging in the first time, getting your OS updates and downloading AVG for a free viral detector and then back it up with Spybot and AdAware. All are free and can be found via googling.

for the question of the CD formats, yes. i believe that bf2 is a DVD-ROM, and that drive can read thoes and CD-Roms. the only thing you wont be able to do with that particular one you have selected is burn CD's and DVD's.

for the sound card, for $75 you can get the audigy 2 zs, which is pretty much the next best thing to a X-fi if you dont want to pay that minimum $120 on newegg

thers a sale, rite now on newegg, for $10 off the audigy 2 zs if you buy it now

To save some money if you have a closet full of cabling and screws and you don't need the install disks because you download them off of the main companys website like so many of us do. For you? Stay retail if possible.

The only deal that is even cheaper than college student purchasing. It's called Parents. No deals for high school students directly.

So if I get OEM I know I may not get a fancy package (who cares) but will I get all the wires/screws and what not that are REQUIRED to built this thing

well first off, what parts are you planning on buying OEM?

nvm i see them srry

things like the hard drive and CD-ROM dont matter im pretty sure, because the needed cables come with the motherboard, and other things, you can download the latest drivers off the internet, the only thing im not sure about is the speakers...

IMO the RAM you have chosen may be too good for your requirements. If I have done my sums correctly some PC5300 RAM will be fine for a clockspeed up to around 2.3ghz, PC6400 will get you to around 2.8ghz depending on other factors such as your motherboard and cooling.
Clearly if you want a heavy overclock the 6400 is better but if you plan to run at or near to stock speeds I would save money and get 5300.

Some equpment may come with extras. Such as the case you've chose. (a nice case btw) it will have a bag of screws and such in it. The cabling you'll need usually comes with the motherboard as well as the drive so you should be good there too. And if it turns out you need screws? Hit up a radio shack at that time or harvest them from the older PC at the house

The original question was a total no. Librarys don't have OS's on the shelf ot loan out. Bookstores can sell software but will be more expensive than most computer stores. The only close yes to the discount part was the student store.

alright I changed the ram... the one I have now should be cheap and stable

apparently its also amazing for overclocking and has heat spreaders... didn't need those 2 but I guess you can't go wrong with extras:p
