while saving for my new build over the summer, i origanally was planning on buying a X2 3800+, but after i realized that i was misled in the statement that bf2 takes advantage of a dual core processor, i ran into a problem in my head :)

i was going to change over and get the athlon 64 3700+, because of the overall quality, but i remembered that the X2 3800+ is going to drop to about $160-$170, while the 3700+ is at $205

is the price of the 3700+ going to drop any more, or stay where it is at? because in that case ill just get the 3800+ when its cheeper, but if the 3700+ is going to drop ide rather get that for the cache and clock speed...

anybody know if the price of the 3700+ is going to drop, and if they both end up in the same price range, what one is the better buy?

I think they are both going to drop. I would buy a dual core reguardless if BF2 takes advantage of it, its probably going to be more than enough for BF2 and other games are going to start using it.

As a rule of thumb, don't plan out the core components in detail until ~3 weeks before you buy. Things change too rapidly and you end up aiming for obsolete technology. Don't be the guy who just bought a s939 system because he didn't realize AM2 was out and had been planning on buying a certain config for 6 months.

To answer your question more, I think single core is fine for cheap, but dual core is the way to go for the future. My 2.6ghz Venice is plenty fast, however I did buy it 12 months ago, if I were buying now I would go with a dual core.

My rule of thumb is about 2 weeks, but it varies. And yea, Newegg changes prices a lot (with weekend sales, and one day sales, and just price raises and lowerings).

Thats good advice as i was a silly 1 ang got a 478skt sytem and well 478 is gone now cant even get a 478skt mobo with PCI-Xpress:cry: :cry:

ok i think that you should go with the 3800+ dual core as i have one and its amazing i get really good fps in my games :)
