they have okay chipsets, but some are different than others and compaitibility with different products of other companies and even intel themself is SUPER confusing and stuff.

If you are building a new PC from scratch then a Conroe with the 965 chipset would be a good budget way to go. At least wait for it's release and AMD prices to drop before deciding whats the best route.

If your question was wherther to wait or not, then keep in mind Conroe is being released in July, but it probably won't be easy to get ahold of one until August/September.

So if you wait, you may be waiting awhile.

I want to get into this "****ing ********" so I'll back up my part.

Intel is a MUCH larger company than AMD. Intel has 8 or 9 Manufacturing Plants, while AMD has 2, with a new one being built, and one going out of commission due to age. Intel reports that 25% of it's shipments are going to be Conroes at the release date. As reference, 20% of Intel's shipments equal 100% of AMD's total processor output. So the 25% of Conroes that will be floating around will still be more than all the AMD Athlon 64s that AMD produces. I don't see any imminent shortage of Athlon 64s, does anyone else?

I've already discussed it with the chaps over at XS, that was the final conclusion as well.

yes the conroe will game better than some AMD chips now, but how long before you can get a hold of the one you want is the question???

plus, intel always screws up their chipsets and crap... im not saying the CPU wont rock for gaming, but they sometimes even out,

I think you have a valid point on avaliability, we don't know how many will be avaliable right after launch to general consumers.

But Intel's chipsets being bad??? WTF Intel does roll out new chipsets fairly frequently, but they are the most rock solid stable chipsets around. Intel's chipsets are a very large contributing factor to their success and stanglehold on the OEM market.

Nvidia has been a savior for AMD because without them, Opteron would not have been as viable a workstation and server chip, being mated with crappier products. Also didn't hurt that AMD got nearly a year of SLI exclusivity over Intel.

But back to the point, intel makes the best chipsets, you're just spewing a bunch of nonsense IMO.

You're right, Intel does have a lot of capacity, but we don't know what the yeilds are like.

So far most evidence points that the yeilds are good, and that there will be alot of avaliability at launch, but we can't be 100% certain until next month.

It's very possible that only the lowest end Conroe will be avaliable in mass (still good chips) we wil just have to wait and see. All the manufacturing capacity in the world doesnt help if the company hasn't perfected the chip recipe.

Intel has already had 9+ months to work out .65nm technology, so from that standpoint they have made progress, but it is a new chip design, and even if they have .65nm under control, there is no telling how many viable chips they will be making avaliable to consumers. For all we know Dell and HP get the lions share... it's always a possibility.

Ah, but Intel is charging everyone the same price. Thus Newegg gets as many as they want, and are not picked over Dell or HP. Also, I've seen websites that have pre-ordered Conroes. Yes, the E6300 is the most common, almost twice as many of those, but the other ones are in no short order (no pun intended).

Yields of Conroe? Please tell me you're joking. Intel has only been getting better and better yields. As of the first week of July, e-tailers will start recieving the Conroe processors (you didn't expect them to ship on the release date, did you?). The Conroe is as good as finalized.

Indeed you have to account for OEMs taking their share, which will most likely get the majority of them. Also Intel hasn't given specifics as to if they begin shipping to retailers on July 23, or retailers will ship on the 23rd. All they have said is they will ship on the 23rd. If it is the first then it will be AT LEAST a month before they are widely available.
