Just like if you can get a better Conroe CPU at a HIGHER performance for a lower price, its stupid to buy a A64 X2. Not true in this case, as the processor will be under the $183 of the E6300, but only the X2 3800+s are exempt from that, seeing as they don't make a Conroe as weak as them, lol.
Yea, right now i'm just waiting for conroe to get a price drop. If i can't get s939 anymore by mid august, i'd rather shell out the extra 50 or so bucks to get a conroe system over a AM2 system, as the performance gains will be huge (well at least that's what YOU say, and i trust you quite a bit).
Since Intel is going to big cache, and AMD is not. I wonder what would happen if software starts to be written to use alot of cache??? Would that also affect the performance?

Yea lol, well, since i'm upgrading about a month after the launch (ok a month minus 10 days), i'll see the reviews, check the prices and consider at that time. Anyways Intel will have 2x1MB L2 cache like before right? Anyways, Optys will be moving on to AM2, and they are likely to be the only savior for AMD since they just eliminated all their 1MB and 2x1MB l2 cache CPUS (3700, 4000, 4000 X2, 4400X2, 4800X2), and they will be keeping the 1mb l2 cache tradition, hopefully they overclock like crazy like they do for s939.

I think the intel core 2's are going to be either 2x1mb each or 2x2mb.
They have the room because their memory controller isn't on the CPU. Intel is going to start producing processors with on die memory controllers in a couple years.

Have you seen anything official saying there will be AM2 Optys? As far as I know they will be migrating them to SlotF.

Yes, their normal opterons will be on socket F and labeled 22xx and 82xx. They are also migrating the 1Mb L2 cache Opties similar to the 1xx series for socket 939 to AM2. in They will be designated 12xx.

Don't tell me they are getting another socket (like socket 754 and s939 situation), or is the 'Socket F' only for workstations like Socket 940?

As for the cache, its neither 2x1MB, nor 2x2MB. Its a "shared" 2MB and 4MB L2 cache. Meaning that either core can use any amount of the cache that it wants, and it not limited to 1MB or 2MB. Core 2 Duo also has an option in the BIOS to disable one core (supposedly to conserve energy?). In such a case, the remaining core would get all of the avaliable cache, which would be 2MB in the case of the E6300/E6400 and 4MB in the E6600/E6700/X6800.
