Video card driver problem..

Hi im having some problems with instaling newer versions of driver for my Asus nvidia geforce N6800 512mb DDR2 AGP 8x video card.When i install it i get wierd vertical stripes with distorted colors and then screen goes black.Ive tried different versions of drivers,went and exchanged the card to see if its vc and still nothing only driver that works is the one from cd driver version 78.01.Called Asus cusomer service the have no idea what could be the problem.I was wondering if anyone knows what could cause this.My specs are:

Amd Athlon 64 3200+
Asus K8N-E Deluxe mobo socket 754 nvidia 3 chipset
2 Gb of ram 1GB Kingston 1GB Mushkin
350 w power suplly dont know the brand
Hyundai L90D+ lcd monitor.
120 GB Maxtor hd

could be a Power problem some of the cheap power supplys say there X wattage but there not

Thanks for reply yeah guy at the store also said that it might be power supply ill try get a better one and see what happends.
