Creative X-Fi sound blaster

hey guys, i'm pondering weather i should replace my sort of wonked out Sound Blaster live with a newer shinier Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum.. i Understand that BF2 was created to support these cards and i was wondering how exactly does BF2 sound on one of these compared to standard onboard sound or even last generation Sound Blasters?
thank you... oh and i have a 5.1 setup. as well as gaming headphones by Sennheiser PC160

Dont' bother with the platinum, unless you just need the breakoutbox. The Xtreme music will sounds exactly the same.

As for a diffrence, there is a huge one, especially compared to the Live! series.

thanks... i was going to grab a new vid card instead but i realized i have AGP... so i think if i get a X-fi i can transfer it into the new Rig i intend to build. thanks for the info, i will get the music version i don't need the breakout box...

i love my x-fi, except it doesnt always recognise the difference between my headset and my speaker, and so, has no sound.

just so ya know, bf2 was actually developed for the Audigy 2 zs (sorta), because it came out before the x-fi was released. then I believe they patched the x-fi support in.

X-fi support is amazing. I suggest you get the Xtrememusic edition of it. It's the most basic stripped version. There is no point getting the Platinum or the Fatality one as they include XRAM which Creative says game developers will use. But hardly anyone has so far.

The difference is amazing indeed, both in games and DVDS.

Venny, in the X-Fi control panel there is a option to automatically detect if a headset is being used over speakers.

Farhad - just because XRAM isnt properly used now doesnt mean it isnt a good reason to buy it. I imagine there are many people like me that very rarely upgrade their soundcard (like every 5 years), so it would be good to have something that has longevity.

I upgraded from audigy 2zs to xfi fatality last week and the sound in BF2 is very good, but not really a major difference but the improvement is noticeable, even though I have the card in gaming mode and bf2 sound on ultra high settings - massive difference with music though. I would recommend the purchase and there are some good deals to be had on ebay

U got to download the Beta Driver if u want to notice another differnce in BF2, Not much but there is a differnce.

xram may dcome in handy later. and for your situation might be good, but by the time games utilize XRAM, newer and better soundcards than the x-fi will be out...

sort like what ATi and Nvidia are doing (sorta) and DX10.

neocitron..ive got the extreme music card..and wholeheartedly recomend it..it takes a bit of the workload away from your cpu.leaving a bit more power to play games..and the sound is amazing...thumbs up
