Help my new GPU is crashing BF2 and my system but most importantly BF2.

Somebody please help I just installed (yesterday)a PNY Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS and now BF2 crashes, after I log in, or sometimes it won't even load.

My sys specs are as follows: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600), Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6. 00PG, AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.0GHz, 2046MB RAM, Page File: 316MB used, 1863MB available, DirectX 9.0c. Oh and my machine a Gateway (formerly Emachines D6417) has a 300W power supply and only one PCIe (8X) bus/slot. All other slots are PCI.

Display Specs: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS, 256.0 MB, and I installed the drivers which came out 2 days ago.

I know absolutely nothing about BIOS settings or clocking (overclocking) or any of the advanced processes that fixing this problem will force me to learn. I have no idea what's wrong here I have tried other games and everything was getting hung, for awhile my whole system was unstable. Please help the only reason I went out and bought a new card was for BF2, I am simply, hooked.

I have recieved two stop errors from windows which stated: Error Message: STOP 0x000000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER (Q293078). I recieved one while attempting to load BF2 and one when playing a video interview from dice. Windows resolution is a) update drivers; I did. b.) Change hardware acceleration to none and enable write combining; which I will try but it seems to lack granularity and I didn't buy a GPU to limit my graphics!

The newest drivers have been causing problems for some. Try using drivercleaner to clean out the 91 series, and install 84.21. That may help.

Well, I've gotten a little further and a little worse off at the same time. I crash now at a map load on singleplayer game, the screen froze, went black; then alternated between black frozen BF2 screen to my windows screen. The only way out; power off! However when I did so now my CPU fan went crazy and there was nothing happening. Solution, pull the plug. So now I am back to a pretty unstable sys again w/ the display cutting even as I write this post. Help!

Oh, yeah. I removed the update drivers w/Driver Cleaner and found and installed the 8.xx forceware that you recommended. Sorry, left that one out.

Does anyone think that it could be my PCU? 300W and I just installed this Vectro Nvidia 7600 GS and a creative Audigy 4 sound card with 2g Ram. Could it just be too much for this OEM'd tower running a 300W PCU? I have no idea what the 12V amperage rating is but I can check when I get home.

wow, u run a 7600GS on a 300W PSU? im not sure it feeds enough power to it. perhaps thats why it froze. not enough power to render the graphics. not enough power for the increased load, so hang, then crash.

Well I just installed an Antec 500W PSU w/ dual 12v rails 17A and 19A respectively and . . .still I get a crash upon boot of BF2 and an unstable system. How do I find out what motherboard my system has I see no designated marking s on it besides the chipset and those are like in board audio and visual correct?

well i went and updated drivers for my motherboard and flashed my bios all is up and working great. geez a graphics card what a difference!

Um no. The 7600GS is miles ahead of the 6200. Please don't post if you have no idea what you're talking about.

You can't argue with him, he's got a Pentiuem, and he somehow managed to fit it in an amd mobo.
