s-video monitor?

i have a 20" lcd tv in my room, and the 7600GT which i was planning on buying has a s-video on it, and so does my tv. if i hook the 2 up together, will the tv function as a monitor?

Ive done it. My 7600gs recognized it right away, but the quality wasnt to great. So then i tried the component, and that was better, but still nowhere near vga or dvi...

And yes, jimmy's right, this should be in Tech Center. people have been really confused lately. Remeber, the Support forum is for people to b!tch about the newest patch and the Tech Center forum is for people trying to prove that Conroe is the next coming of christ. Get it right people:)

If you have a TV like mine there should be a Red Green Blue inputs on the back of your TV, use a normal 3 part RCA cable and hook it up. You will get a great improvmnet in quality. S-Video losses quality after 10 metres of cable just a note. but RGB keeps the quality high with longer distances.

The problem is that the tech center is a sub form and people are not trained to look at sub forums, to the causual eye the tech center looks like a stickie or something they dont need to read.

Anyways @ the OP, S-video and composite will look like garbage on a TV. You might be able to watch videos/DVD's and play games, but you will not be able to read in game text or see all of the details.

A regular TV is 720x480 resolution, S-Video and Composite are Standard definition and max out at this low resolution.

You will want to use DVI, VGA or Component video output. Your LCD TV if it is an HD model will have 1, 2 or all three of those inputs. If it is a standard definition LCD then your probably limited to 720x480, but if you use compononet you might be able to run 480P progressive instead of interlaced using S-video. Again depends if it's totally standard def, or if the TV is an improved digital variety.

Make sure to buy a 7600GT with Component output if you have an HDTV, or use the VGA or DVI input if you have it on your LCD TV.

ok, i found VGA to component cables that would work, but i have one more question. when i use the tv as a monitor, will i be able to adjust the resolution, or will i be stuck at the low res that was said a few posts up?

It depends what TV you have, you obviously dont know anything about TV's so just post the model # and I will look it up

Youll most likely be able to change the resolution, and in the Nvidia settings theres a whole wizard for setting the picture up on your tv, which help somewhat.

My TV will display up to 1024x768, but you can't read anything... 800x600 is fine but really can't tell that much difference between that and 640x480. And twsmit, 720x480 is the resolution for widesreen DVDs, but I'd say the large majority of TV's have a 4:3 ratio resolution such as 640x480.
