Video card flash from the past???

Looks like the graphics industry might slowly be moving away from dual card SLI solutions, as manufacturing allows more to be placed on one PCB, and eventually one core.

First there was SLI
Second there was SLI on a Stick (7950 GX2)
Third there was SLI on one PCB
Next SLI on one die????

I would predict that in 2-3 years we will be entirely back to a single graphics card solution, with everything taking place on die, or atleast on the same PCB. Just as the original 3dFX SLI was a gimick to raise performance I think current SLI/Crossfire technology will be replaced as soon as it's feasible to get the same performance in a smaller package.

Thoughts?

HOLY CRAP, ATi's rage series had dual GPUs on one card, wow, that beats the 7800GT EXTREME by a lot (in time made).

I dont know how the last phase of SLI ended but Ive got feelings SLI will stay but those quad card things.... I think its only a matter of time until they die out.

Yea, they're lose popularity liek teh old ASUS 7800GT EXTREME did (the dual 7800GT on one card by ASUS).

SLI/Crossfire remains as long as 'standard res' is up in the air.
