i read somewhere that battlefield 2 is one of the few games that will benifit from having a duel core processor. i was going to get a x2 3800+ and if this is true than this is good news. i was wondering if somebody knew if this was true, and maybe could you explain it to me?

NO, it's not one of the few games that really benefit by Dual core, games like F.E.A.R. are. Anyways, if you think about it, CPUs don't affect gaming performance much at all, because when runing at all high settings with all the eye candy, the GPU bogs down, and believe it or not, the graphics card is bottlenecking the CPU most times (even with the best graphics cards).Originally posted by jhill1 -

what eddy said. I really don't get that much more performance than friends that have an FX CPU (keeping everything else the same). The place my CPU really shines is that I can open photoshop and start batch processing 50 high res photos and then while that's running I can start up BF2 and run that just fine.
but just straight up gaming they actually meet or sometimes even beat me on fps. Also as eddy usually the GPU (video card) is slower than a GOOD CPU. now the other side of the coin here is that the dual core CPUs are new and you can cound on game makers to be making games more and more that can take advantage of that. so buying one won't be a bad thing that you never use, just don't expect it to be right now.

However, if you do multitask or do stuff like that, you should get a dual-core. Also, if your getting AMD dual core, refrain from buying now, buy at July 24 or later, when the AM2 Dual-cores are have a 35-50%price drop.Comment

ya the price was killing me, until i saw that the price was going to drop. i dont even need a comp until september, so the price might have more drops also, so when the price is that low it will probably be a good time to get oneComment

BF2 doesn't take advantage of it, though if you run Fraps or TeamSpeak or any other application in the background it will help.Comment

Jhill, if you time it right you might be able to get a 4400+ for just slightly more than the 3800 is right now.

for fraps, fraps does not bog down the system if it is only just running in the backgroun, it only bogs the system if you start recording a movie with it. THIS is when you are going to want a dual core processer because one core will be able to code the video for fraps.
Bf2 doesnt benefit from a dual core processer as much as games like FEAR and stuff do, but it would help with one core handleling BF2, and the other handleling everything else. it wouldnt necesscarily raise the FPS but it might help some how @_@Comment
