Why not i have a 9600 25mb that can nearly handle all settings on medium(no aa-AF) and a friend can run all medium with some AA-AF with a 9800 pro

So what is stoping this card running all high settings

It's not good enough, plus it's using slower ddr2 ram. What's your budget?

About £150-£170 is the max and i was looking at the 7600GT but it seems the same as the x1600 pro

Nope, the 7600gt uses much faster GDDR3 ram, and it has way higher clock speeds than the x1600.

7800gs and 2gb 400mzh ram would be your best bet if you want to play high and smooth using an agp board.

x800xt or gto and x850 series aren't bad cards either; depending on the mfg, layout and components, they are competitive with the 6600/6800 series. AGP cards are getting hard to find cheap, though. It may be prudent to wait until the dx10 cards and vista are released (november) and pick up a gpu off ebay in January, after all the ooober-leet upgraders have been visited by Santa Clause and are dumping their old (6-month old dx9) components. Althernatively, it may prove cost effective to completely upgrade to PCI-E and a high-end DX9 card by that time.

EDIT: I certainly wouldn't drop $200 right now on a mid-end card like the x1600. Tom's hardware has a review of the ATI build, if it helps:

No ther is not a AGP 7600GT but i can get a AGP& PCI-x mobo for 32pound you see the problem i have is i have a 478 socket pentium 4 and the mobo's seem to be dissapearing so in about 8 monthes im building a whole new comp

If I understand your Engrash correctly, you're looking at getting an AGP+PCI-E combo board? That may not be a great choice...

Hmm. What P4 do you have? BF2 is NOT a processor intensive app--anything above a 2.4ghz is plenty. If you want to BF2 to stop looking like crap, you need at least 1gb RAM, coupled with something like (I don't know if Brits can buy from Newegg) this:

Both have gddr3 memory, both have 256bit interfaces, the 6800 has 16 pixel pipelines, compared to the x800's 12. The 6800 will do a halfway-decent job on Oblivion with SM3, whereas the x800 will have a much better framerate (because it can't do SM3, har-har). I think you would probably see a HUGE difference with either of these cards. I have a p4 3.0E, 1gb ram, and an x800xt, and I get consistent ~50-70fps with the settings on mostly high (geometries, view distance a few others), and the rest on medium, with no dynamic lighting or shadows (you can see people better with the shandows off) and low lighting effects, at 1024x768. I can turn it up to 1600x1200 and still get really decent (40-50) fps, but I have to turn down everything besides the geometries and view distance to medium/low.

HOWEVER, if you want to build a new computer in a few months, then DON'T BUY ANYTHING NOW. Intel is getting set to release Conroe VERY soon; "back to school" computer sales/rebates/promotions will be running in late July/August; DX10 cards will be out just a tad later; Vista will be out in November; Holiday sales will begin the same month. Anything you're looking at buying right now will drop by 1/3 to (maybe) 1/2 in price in just five months. Anything you buy now, you'll be wishing you had either waited another 10-15 weeks to get more cheaply, or you'll be wishing you had spent the same amount of money and gotten much better components.

I have a 3.4ghz HT P4 CPU AND 1GB of pc2100(i know not too great)i am not too bothered about the prices coming down in a few months but is good to know might be able to get some of the stuff for my future comp cheaper

i have a xpress 200 radeon 156 but is buffed up buy my 1024 ddr pc3200 ram
my phisical mem only says i hav 8something abd my video card is 128 but it says is 256

it runs high smooth
