    Widescreen LCD + BF2

Anyone in here using a widescreen LCD monitor? Curious to know what your opinions are of the monitor and if there are any shortfalls from gaming to everyday use?

I use mine it's actually 2 LCD Flat screens so my size is 2560x10244 but I dont play BF with dual due to the plastic on outer monitors both blocking the middle it is annoying to say the least. So most likely I'll save these 2 for my other computers and just buy a new wide screen once I return.

I'm using a 20.1" Dell widescreen 2005FPW, 1680 x 1050 rez. on an ATI X800XT Pro. It is indeed a beautiful thing. Shortfalls from gaming to desktop stuff? None. Desktop is widescreen as well.

        Bottom line....DO IT! :)

This caught my eye when I was checking this thread out. If, like me, you got an Audigy soundcard with your Dell, you can get them to upgrade you to X-Fi for free. Their OEM Audigy won't work with a mic. It's a known issue they can't/won't fix. If you go to the Dell XPS forums, you can PM the administrator there with your "problem," and you'll be over-nighted the X-fi. Run a search on my name here and you'll find the direct link, too, btw, which I posted some time back.

Thanks for the info, but I don't have a Dell PC, I built mine. I just purchased the monitor from them.

              Thanks though!

The only problem I can think of is that some games may not support widescreen resolutions (such as BF2 )

Well, some games may not be able to be hacked to support widescreen. There's not many recent/new games that can't, or that don't support it out of the box.

It gets cut off at the top and bottom.

In those pictures... he aims at the same spot... and it appears to look cut off, but it's not.

Look at the minimap hud... and the weapons/health hud at the bottom. Those are not cut off.... so gaming in widescreen DOES NOT cut off anything in BF2.... they're just stretched to fit the screen.

Nothing in that picture shows that it's cut off.

                            21" widescreen and loving it.

Shortfalls: when good games like BF2 don't natively support widescreen.

I think I'll take the leap. So when a game does not support widescreen, how does it handle the display? (black bars or stretched screen, etc)
