for the video card I've heard a lot of problems with the 7600 and 7900's. if that is your price range I'd look into the ATI X1800. I know someone that just picked up a saphire and he's very happy with it.

as for the SLI discussion, I get around 80-100fps in some maps and 65-85 in others. I have two 7800GTX's so I'm no where near 80% more than those with single cards.

oh and that's with everything on high, 4x AA and 1280x1024 res.

for the CPU what about a 3800 X2? I think I saw they are down to like $170.

No, mostly not 7600, it's pretty much all 7900GT, but then again, big companies like XFX, ,eVga, BFG, have great warranties, so just gotta RMA it. Anyways, yea, if you wanna get ATi, get the X1800XT while it lasts, it's 220 bucks after MIR and performs at about the same as a 7900GT.

There are several things that affects the FPS beside the video card. CPU, RAM, and even power can affect it. Have you tried one 7800GTX card vs two 7600GT on that specific computer that you got?

Dual-core CPUs are pretty much out of the question, I simply cant afford them.

then wait, just wait. On July 24 (the day after the Conroe release, and coincidentally, EXACTLY one month from today), there is gonna be a 35-50% price drop for all dual-core proccesors for AM2. So wait for that, then dual core processors will be around 170 bucks or so.

There is really no point in planning anything out farther than 2 weeks. Alot of things can change in a month.

I suggest you re-evaluate when you're ready to buy.

Yea same, as not only CPU prices will deviate, and also some products will not be made anymore.
