If you're not the kind who absolutely must have the most powerful processor, and are more than happy to play with slightly reduced settings, go for the 3500. What you save can be spent on more RAM, or a step-up on the video card... or nothing, if you want to spend as little as possible.

Next step up on the video card is 7800/7900, which is way out of my league. And due to bad personal experience with ATI cards, im not gonna get that either.

I dont need my card to run at ultra-high or anything, but somewhere between medium and high, with fps around 50. CPUs are rather easy to switch later as well, so that could be an option.

Do you plan on ever overclocking? If no get the 3500, if yes get the 3700.

Either way I reccomend steering away from an ECS motherboard. Not known for being top quality.

Also would reccomend finding a HD with 16MB cache, it shouldn't cost you any more.

If anything i would suggest an Opteron

Mainly because you can overclock the heck out of them

Even if you don't they are cheaper than X2s and run Cool

Ive heard of someone making there speed 50% faster and they still had stock temps

We don't even know if he is even interested in overclocking, so reccomending those at this point is pointless.

Not to mention that both of those cost more than the 3700, and he's trying to save money.....

Not to mention again, that they aren't cheaper than the X2s, they are about $30 more....

I would have to disagree with Jimmy about the hard disk. The Samsung HD is excellent, and 16mb cache on a 7200rpm drive will most likely be unnoticeable in anything except synthetic benchmarks. The 3500 is a perfectly adequate CPU, but as Jimmy said try to find a better branded motherboard. ASUS might be a good choice for a mid range board. Also I would look carefully at your power supply and consider choosing a better brand.

You're right, but I still would go with a 16MB cache drive, its just a few pennies more, and while the cache in and of its self doesnt really help, the 16MB models are usually 1-2 years newer, with more advanced platters and technology, meaning they are faster than older HDDs.

As for the PSU, I would probably upgrade it like you said.

@ the OP about the CPU. The 3700+ is a fine CPU, its probably the best affordable single core out there, but drop to a 3200+ or 3500+ if the savings allow you to bump up to a better video card. Video is king with games, remember that.

Or to bump up the RAM. 2GB does wonders. Given the choice of a 3700+ w/ 1GB of RAM vs. a 3200+ w/ 2GB RAM, the 3200+ w/ 2GB would be better for gaming. So if it's possible you may want to look at that.

wowow, I'm trying to save money, not spend more!

Yes, if i go down to the 3500, i can afford another gig of ram. The 7600 is more than good enough for me, from what i've heard. The 3200 has got some bad reviews on the website to the company i'm buying this from, so i'm not going down to that one. Its either 3700 with 1 gig ram, or 3500 with 2 gig.

We're talking around 7000 NOK (norwegian money), which is about the same as 1100 $. The problem is, buying stuff in US/Canada is much cheaper than it is over here. If you look at what a similar set up like the one in my first post will cost over there, you got a better understanding on how much i can spend. I'm guessing that it will be around $850-$1000, if you look at what you get for your money.

This is the site i'm planning on buying this off. You can configure what you want, and then they put it together for you, and ensure that everything work. I know its all written in norwegian, but you might make something out of it anyway. Its the best, cheapest and most well-known shop in norway, almost like newegg.

I'm not buying anything but the pc itself, no screen, speakers, mouse, keyboard or software. And i need a wireless network card.

Just come with ideas.
