neglected the motherboard.. How important?

Hey everyone,


So my computer went through a major change.. I fried the old one so i built a new one, I picked up everything that i think i needed listed below:
AMD Athalon 64 3700+
2.5 gigs of ram
ASUS A8N-VM Motherboard
nVIDIA GeFORCE 7600 GT OC ( overclocked) 256MB GDDR3 ram
19 inch Samsung LCD monitor
200gig STA Harddive.

How ever i did end up buying a "Cheap" Motherboard, and until now that i have been reading through the forums here seems i should have bought a better board? I bought this board originally because it had everything "On board" but then found out the video sucked or gaming so i bought the better video card.

My Question is, Would i get anymore performance out of my computer if i upgraded to a better motherboard? I am moving to a larger case tonight so i can install a couple of fans, Just wondering if i should swap out the motherboard too?

In some cases, motherboards are the only thing that can make a HUGE difference. If you are gonna be overclocking, a good motherboard will make it or break it. Some people, like myself, have gone through a few boards and now I just want one that is "bullet-proof". All major manufacturers have these boards, they are just built to last and take any punishment you dish out. Some are excellent overclockers, but sometimes dont offer the longevity.

Well i dont overclock, the Video card claims to come overclocked and i leave my CPU Chip alone.

Just i find when playing a game say like Counterstrike i get a high ping, and i have been told that it could be that i have decent hardware but its being slowed down by my motherboard. And i dont want to have this issue with BF2, I picked up the game today the demo was working great lastnight so i will be installing this tonite

Who the hell told you a motherboard can give you high ping?
Do yourself a favour and lose their phone number. A cheap motherboard may lack build quality and overclocking options, but thats about it.

Don't forget lack of relibility due to it's sub-par build quality..

Anywho, if you're not going to be overclocking it don't worry about it.

Anyhow a mobo has nothing to do with ping.

Using onboard graphics might tax the CPU, same with sound but to a much less greater extent. What could happen with having all those features is onboard conflicting with other hardware if you dont turn it off. Ex onboard sound conflicting with a sound card.

System "lag" has nothing to do with internet "lag", they are two entirely separate disjoint factors that in no way affect each other. Whoever told you otherwise hasn't the faintest idea what they are talking about.

As Smeed said make sure that the on-board video is disabled. Also whoever recomended getting that board has no idea what they are talking about cause on-board graphics is horible for gaming.

Thats a great motherboard by the way. The onboard video can't play games, but its a fine board, and just as fast as anything else. It probably lacks overclocking features, but thats it.

I've got an ASUS A8N-E, is that a good one? I'm just wondering as in my many posts I've talked about overclocking and I've now done so but am wondering if it's my mobo that has cause any instability at higher settings.

I have one of those boards in a different comp, and it's great. Oc's well, wasn't that expensive, overall a good buy if you don't need a sli board.
