How often should I clean my computer?

How much does dust effect performance? I'm getting a proper desk this weekend too so I'll be able to get the tower of my floor.

Dust insulates the heatsinks, which keeps the heat from leaving the heatsinks, which mean your computer parts run hotter. Its good to keep your heatsinks clear of dust for better temps.

I clean mine out at least twise a month. Then again I have a ruge radiator that is a dust magnent.

I bet there is already a lot of dust in there as it's on a hardwood floor in the corner. Getting some air this weekend.

Spraying compressed air on fans and letting them spin can do damage to them. Always hold the fan still when blowing air on it.

Yea, what lil jimmy said, clean em out regularly, and don't let them spin. I clean my case out about every month.

i clean the fan filters on my case every month, and all the fans and heatsinks every 2 months.

Well that depends on a few factors. Location of the tower and components and the area where you live. If your house gets alot of dust and your tower is not high and set on the ground then I would say alot. I keep mine about 3-4 feet off of the ground and only have to clean mine once a week. I am also very picky about my systems so I would say that even that is a bit to much. Just look in your tower if you see dust and a build up on the fans then "wow maybe I should clean that more often".

Mines coming up to a year without a clean. Lives on floor and it is getting a little dusty inside. I pull the inevitable dog hairs out of the front vent now and then but its yet to ask (via high temp) to be cleaned and unless its broke i aint fixing it.

I use an air compressor to clean my case.

Ive got a window on my case, and its ontop of the desk so I just clean it when it looks dusty. My case is pretty open so it tends to get dusty fast but it seems like a once a month cleaning is whats agreed on.
