computer problems

i just bought a amd 3800 venice core for a GA-K8NF-9 motherboard i had laying around.

now i have 1 gig of corsair xms installed, a geforce 6600, westerndigital 320 gb ide harddrive, and sony cdrom, with a 350 wat antec psu.

now the problem is when i turn the computer on nothing happens. the cpu fan starts the video card starts everything seems to be working but nothing is happening. the computer has no speaker so i cant hear any beeps. the monitor says thier is no single and that the monitor is working properly, but the video card is working as i was just using it last week and the fan and lights are on. it is fully connected.

also i removed the heatsink to see if the cpu was working and it got red hot which means its working. also would i have to update the bios? if so how can i now.

do u guys think it is the mother board?

Wait, you removed the heatsink while the computer was on?

I would bet it is the motherboard. Try a PCI video card and see if anything happens and if you can RMA it.

no matdef i turned the computer off then i removed the heatsink and turned it on for 2 secs and the cpu got red hot. the last time i had a problem i called gigabyte they told me to do this to check if it was the cpu.

well i just got a hold of gigabyte and they said to rma the board so im figureing dats wat ima have to do

Well, that was the exact wrong thing to do, and I bet you fried your proc at the same time. It's never ok to turn on the computer when there's no hs on the proc, it only takes .5 seconds to get permanently damaged.

You will get no refund or new cpu if you burn it up.

Zomg, please tell me you didn't.

Anyway if you processor is not dead, use process of elimination. Swap eash component out 1 at a time with a known good component until you find the problem.

It's the CPU or mobo most likely, though it could be anything. Like jimmy said use process of elimination.

As a reminder to all those out there never remove the heatsink while the CPU is on.
