    NVidia or ATI for me?

    I'm planing on buying a evga 7900 gt KO when i get my salary but wonders about its capability of dealing with high AA and AF together. Is there an ATI equivalent, at the same price, that will run my games better at high AA and AF??

    In a review I read lately it was said that nvidia gets eaten at highest AA and AF at higher settings 16x12 and + so I wonder if i'm better of getting some ATI equivalent of the evga 7900 GT KO?

    x1900x or x1800 are good ATI cards for good AA

    Keep this in mind

    Nivida= Performance
    ATI= Quality

      ATI does not have a card quite as good as the 7900gt in the $250-$300 range. If you do want to spend more money though, their 1900xtx is slightly better than the 7900gtx with its HQAF (high-quality anisotropic filtering). But, the evga is very good, and evga is quite possibly the best GPU company with its customer service :). Plus, you can overclock and change the heatsink/fan on evga's cards and not void the warranty. I don't believe there are any ATI partners that offer a warranty like that.

      edit: If you're going to play at 1600x1200, the 7900gt may not be enough, so you will probably need to get one of those ultra-high end cards to get decent framrates. 1280x1024 is what I play my games at with my 7900gt, and it works just fine.

        I think its the other way around. You have to admit, ATI doesnt exaclty have the best drivers. And ive never had a problem with my nvidia cards drivers

          i purchased a 1900 512mb gainward from bestbuy, and it had bad memory right out of the package. i know there are different manufatures per gpu, but this didnt sit well with me, so i exchanged it for the 7600gs which was comparably priced. it with an addition of a gig of sys ram, after being only 512, i can run everything on high 4XAA and 4XAF running at 70-100fps while flying or groundpounding.:)

            Gainward does not make the 1900xt or 1900xtx we are talking about here. They only make nvidia cards.

                  I like ATI's for their price to performance ratio. People tend to complain about the catalyst control center, which I don't understand because there are ways around that...

                    Re: NVidia or ATI for me?

                    umm, it USED To be

                    nvidia = performance and quality
                    ATi = performance (depending on the card)

                    now its:
                    nvidia = performance
                    ATi = quality and performance (depending on card)

                    the x1800 and x1900 have MUCH better video quality than nvidia, and also can do AA and HDR at same time. but nvidia cards are also fast and reliable. I like the nvidia drivers more but w/e thats preference. I also like SLi

                      one thing i will say for ATI, their colors seemed brighter, and fuller. the palettes seemed so alive. milkdrop for winamp looked better than i've ever seen it.

                      lately, i've been just using the mainstream stuff, which probably is my bias. i quit playing with amd's and linux... dunno i just got tired of it.

                        sapphire and ati were teh radoen makers

                        and i have a 1800xt and love it i can play everything high wit no problems. doom 3 on ultra bf2 high everything it is 240-299. also the 1800xt 512 out performs the 7900gt in tests

                          Re: NVidia or ATI for me?

                          Ok, just put it this way (GENERALLY):
                          ATi: Better with AA/AF
                          nVidia: Better for non AA/AF

                          I would agree with others when they say ATI=IQ and Nvidia=Perf, but that's just getting too contraversial. Anyways 7900GT alternative, easy X1800XT, performs better than 7900GT in BF2:

                          The 7900GT CO SuperCLocked just BARELY bests the X1800XT (and is a whole lot more expensive, the X1800XT costs 220 bucks, the cheapest 7900GT costs 240, and the CO SC is like near 300, and it don't beat it in 1600x1200):

                          Oh yea, and as xbit labs (where i got the benches) says, the CO SC has almost no OC potential cuz it's already been overclocked to near max by factory. Oh yea, and yea, ATi has better AA and AF and nvidia can't run HDR and AA at same time, while ATi can.

                          EDIT: And ATi has good drivers, they get updated every damn month, so they are definetly good for that, and if you don't like their drivers, you can get Omega drivers or somethin like that. But i do agree that eVga has good customer service, also a good warranty, they say it's like 3 years (or more possibly, don't remember), and warranty is not voided if you OC.

                            OOPS! looked straight at it and misread... i stand corrected.
                            it must've been some other brand then that i got from bestbuy, i guess it does make a difference when considering cards to buy. the only reason i didnt buy through newegg is that my i cancelled my only credit card, and gotta get a new one. sorry for the ignorant statement.

                              I think the nvidia=performance ati=quality was towards 3d image quality. ATi has been known for having slightly better image quality for a while, but nvidia is catching up. Ive had both an ATi and nvidia card and I havent had a problem with any drivers.
