Any thoughts on the 6800XT? Do you think it'll provide medium settings? I'm just asking because it's one sale with AoE 3 for 112$ CDN

The 6800XT isn't near as good as the 7600GT, and uh, AOE3 doesn't really live up to the AOE name, and AOE2 was way better, much better RTS games out there than AOE3. I would still rec the 7600GT.

Or hes saying that AOE3 will almost certainly live up to the legacy of AOE2 and AOE? (which it doesn't imho).

I guess I didn't add that in. I almost certainly will buy the 7600GT, but I'd prefer spending a bit less money. Would a 6800XT or 6600GT be a decent downgrade?

Oh, good, i would still go with the 7600GT. THe 7600GT is better than the 6800GS, which is better than the 6800XT, which is better than the 6600GT. The extra money spent on a 7600GT will be well worth the investment.

It seems the deilemma worsens. I could but a 6800XT with AoE for a mere $112 CDN, maybe 100 US, or a 7600GT for $180CDN. I don't really care about the game, but is the "mere" downgrade worth the savings? How much of a loss of performance could I expect.

IMO i would save for a little longer and get a 7900GT. If you do that you won't have to buy a new card next year, or the year after, and you can run just about any game on the floor right now. But thats just MO, thats what i'm going to do

THe 7600GT can run any game out there, in fact, my X800XL can run every game out there, on high, no. THe 7600GT can run most games on high though. BUt i would agree, if you got extra money in the attic, then add it on and get a 7900GT, much better (double the pipelines).

is there a 7600GS? maybe can try that for a downgrade from 7600GT.

I guess I can wait till the end of the summer to buy a video card, hoping the prices come down a bit, but the 7900GT does seem like the better choice, so thanks for the input. If anyone has a 7900GT, mind giving me an idea of what it would be like to be a proud owner of one? Reall just something to make me drool over.

Yea, it's a downgrade from the GT, not much cheaper, i would still get the 7600GT.
