Well, they're coming out early 2007, but you don't NEED them until 2-3 years (don't quote me on that, that's what Matdef said), and it's not neccesary for Vista.

Actually dx10 cards should be coming out sometime late summer-fall.

i think 6600gt would be too old, perhaps the nvidia 7300, 7600, or the ati 1300, 1600.... could go for the GS versions (Great Savings), would be a good bargain. can check out those from different vendors becos the price difference is usually becos of different bundled stuff. i think inno3d would do gd for budget users, got less bundled stuff, so is cheaper.

I would reccomend the 7600GT if he could afford it, great bang for the buck (like the 6600GT used to be)

yeah, i dont even know why nvidia makes LE cards lol. In the real world it usually means "limited edition", for nvidia, they probably use LE because it sucks so bad, no one is gonna buy it and therefore they will stop making it, turning it into "limited"

Not everyone plays games, or plays modern FPS games. The lower end cards provide sufficient power to play DVD's and other media with some hardware acceleration while keeping a lower power low or zero noise package. Additionally some people need multi monitors for 2D and light 3D applications, and low end cards fill that niche very well.
