It will be fine, won't cause it to overheat or anything. You may be able to turn it up to 4x, but your framerate may become unplayable.

I would stay at 2x, unless you have 2GB of ram.

Im not an expert, but what does ram have to do with anti alaising? Does it have to load more and higher quality textures? Because i have it set to 4 and i have 1 gig of ram. And i get a steady fps of 60-70

It doesn't directly affect it. In simplistic terms, your framerate will increase with 2GB, due to not having to page as much, which will allow you to take a bigger performance hit from AA and still be playable.

RAM indirectly affects alot of BF2 related stuff.

well ive noticed, that before, when I had one card, my AA could only do 2x (6800GS) with 1GB of ram, without losing MEGA frames. once I got 2GB, it jumped up with 4x.

Changing graphical settings usually won't cause your card to overheat. Overclocking is what increases heat....
