I am soon going to buy a new computer and throw away this hp ****. I am going to make my computer and i was wondering if you guys can maybe give me suggestions or lead me to better products to buy. But until then this is what i come up with.

if I had suggestions:

1. the RAM is good, but I would get it with more speed or slightly better timiings, but the current state is still alright.

2. your current rig is actually already prett good man, and building a while new comp from that is actually a really stupid idea. I would just buy another gig of ram, or a 2GB kit (and replace the 1GB already in there) and then upgrade the video card..... theres nothing wrong with your current one, you could just make it better.

3. if you ARE GOING to build a new rig, seeing as how your current one is alright, I would go with the latest technology, so buy a socket AM2 processer, motherboard, and ddr2 RAM.

mobo: there are a lot of good AM2 mobo's to choose from.

4. if you aer going to be getting all that leet hardware, might as well not fall short with an audigy 2zs, go with an xfi.

note: after July 24:, processer prices for AMD CPUs are going to be massivly dropping, the 3800+ will probably be way cheaper. MUCH MUCH cheaper actually.

Alright thanks bro. The X-fi sound card is a little out of my price range. You were right about keeping my computer and fixing it up a bit. But i have a gay ass hp whitch i was so stupid enough to buy. For the rig i have now what do you think i need to be upgraded? Ram right? is the G-Skill i had on my first post good?

Well, thought i am an AMD fan (as you can see in my sig)...i think you sould wait some days and go buy a CONROE based system....It definately brings MUCH more SPEED and POWER...

I suggest getting a Raptor X HDD. Its faster then two 7200 RPM RAID-0 HDDs.

Getting a Conroe would be better. 2.67 GHz for $500.

Also, Tagan PSUs are really good and reliable.

the x-fi is worth it no one will dis agree. if you are going to upgrade, I would get a new video card, RAM, and sound card at the moment.

as for building a new one, yes, conroe will have a lot of performance. so you can get a SUPER perfoming processer for 500$, or a good dual core for like 200$ after the 24th. and the 200$ wont be a bottleneck anyways. so unless you like render movies and ****, i dont know if its worth it.

is one model down from the one you wanted, 20mhz slower in gpu and mem and saves you $70, you can OC the mem for 20 and get close to 20 on the gpu

Go with an AM2 system. Might be ~$50 more expensive, but allows for an upgrade path to K8L (think of it as K8.5, instead of K9) and you get the benefit of owning some DDR2 that can used used in a future computer.

Also wouldnt hurt to wait for conroe, or the AMD price cuts in late july.


As for video, DX10 cards for the first generation from Nvidia will be G70+DX 10 instructions. Realistically it will be 1-2 years before games truely utilize DX9 technology, and even then the G80 will basically be a GF3 vs GF2 type card. Essentially the same design with some newer shaders added on top.
