Putting a Name to a Face: Confessions of a Forum Lurker

I just wanted to drop a short message in here to say hello to everyone... officially, atleast. I've been a silent lurker here for a while, having nothing to discuss that wasn't covered elsewhere. However, as I've spent more time playing the game, I've realized the sense of community that develops outside the confines of the simulation itself.

Feel free to drop a note here to say hello. I am looking for clans and possibly a stable server which would appreciate some small donations.

Thank you for the welcome z0diac, but you might not be so eager for me to post when you see what it is I post and how I do it. I have a tendency to write novel-sized posts, this is probably due to the fact that I designed two entire games using only a forum to coordinate the different portions of the design and coding process. So I find myself typing half a page where a line or two would have sufficed, but I have a feeling those few who dare to start reading my posts will find that I have sufficiently made my point.

On another note, if you are interested in recruiting a motivated and mature player, please check my post in the Clans section. Or you could just click here, I suppose. Thanks!

I guess you had no troubles with essays at school then?

Re: Putting a Name to a Face: Confessions of a Forum Lurker

I worked with several RP-oriented games, did some volunteer work with White Wolf just to have it on my resume. I've been involved with two ongoing projects over the past couple years, both of the Multi-User Dungeons (MUDs). That's right, the great grandfather of MMORPGs are still alive and kickin' it, albeit at the bottom of the barrel.

In truth, I've aided in writing, developing, and producing games since I was a kid. I always did have to know who won at Cops & Robbers... or how many Indian's lives were ended at the tip of my red-capped plastic six-shooter. I can't help it, I just like working with a reality I can create in my head.

Oh, and in response to the comment on my ability to write large amounts of crap helping out with essays... I wish. I have an aggrevating Obsessive-Compulsive tendency that says my handwriting has to be perfect. So I could unload mentally, but I couldn't stop correcting the burr at the top of the letter B, which was probably as far as I got by the end of the class.

My teacher didn't believe me until I proved it to her by typing it all in a matter of minutes or discussing it at length with her personally.

And now it's my turn to ask a question: Where do you two usually play at? What boosters do you have?

            Happy hunting,
            Idol

hehe you rock! keep up the good work
you should seriously consider kickstarting a story based BF2 mod if you like the game with your game making experience
It's something next to no one will attempt and you seem to have the smarts to pull it off

Re: Putting a Name to a Face: Confessions of a Forum Lurker

It's certainly an idea, it'd take some serious work and some pretty commited voluntary contributors. But I'd have to say the system's a bit more up-to-date than the MUD core I was working on... originally released in the early 90's. Suffice it to say, with enough knowledge of the capabilities and limitations you had to work with, you could certainly churn out something that would generate atleast some initial interest.

If anyone is interested in pursuing this idea, I'd love to offer my assistance as a concept developer, but when it comes to BF2 and it's clockwork, I'm entirely ignorant. My contact info is all public now, contact me if you're interested even in just tossing the idea around.

Or perhaps a longer attention span?

                    Just a thought.

Bother you, no. That wasn't it's intent... but apparently what matters is making decidedly pointed comments on something that... by everyones account... doesn't matter. I just figured if it A) didn't bother you and B) didn't "matter"... you wouldn't be bothering me.

Assumptions are a dangerous matter though, I suppose, and logic doesn't always apply.
