why use a program? just use the connect to ip feature in the server browser

if he doesn't know his ip:

It creates a virtual lan so we can play in a co-op game together. This way WE host the game, but its not really online.

      someone pls help....

Cant you do that through co-op in the multiplayer section? Create a server, put a password on it and have your buddy join to your IP.

            Re: Hamachi

Host it on your own comp. Just go to multiplayer\create local and through the drop down on the left where it says conquest, change that to coop and it will give you server option where you can password it and customize your game. Then have your friend connect to your ip number. You dont actually need a server to do this.

But you need Hamachi, otherwise your friend wont be on the network. OH I should mention that me and him are not on the same LAN or even the same house, thus the need for Hamachi.

He should still be able to connect through the connect to ip function. Just give him your ip. It should work for you, if not, sorry i wasted your time.

                  YOU DO NO NEED HAMACHI!!!

I have set up tons of COOP games over the internet with nothing special required.

So if the IP starts with 192, I will be able to connect anyway or do I have to get his internet ip?

Well, only the 192.168.x.x is private class, the rest of the 192.x.x.x is public.

You have to use the public side IP address to connect to each other. Thats why the other poster sent you to whatsmyipaddress, so that you will know what IP to connect to.

If your friend is hosting the co-op game, then you need his public IP. If he is behind a gateway router, then he will need to forward the ports from the public side to his server, that way you can connect to him.

So far, others have given you all the info you need, you just need to understand what they are saying.

I got it working. The person who hosts the game has to also host Hamachi. It does the port forwarding for you. Just had a good run tking the **** out of the bots in Gulf.

Hamachi is great if your on a network and you wanta start you own server.

Yes, Hamachi is a nice tool..but it is NOT necessary to play BF2.

192.168.XX.XX is your INTERNAL LAN address.

You need to give your friend your EXTERNAL WAN address.
