Disk Defragmenter causing freeze

Ok, whenever I try to defragment my hard drive, it causes a system freeze which I can only get out of with the restart button. It happens at different stages. Once at 3%, once at 50% so far.

My BF2 load times have been increasing, and that it something I don't like ...

What is exactly causing this problem?

Try running a chkdsk from cmd prompt before running defrag or go the GUI versionby right-clicking on drive, properties, tools, Error Checking tool

Thanks for the help, but I just found out that apparently the defragmenter was freezing while trying to move a 3GB file. I've fixed that up and it works fine now.

You should make sure you have more than 15% free space, it should be able to move a 3 gig file.

kaheiyeh, try to use different defrag programs like O&O Defrag, I do belive they have a limited version. (A free 30 day trial with no obligation!) that is, try it see if it works, http://www.oo-software.com/en/products/oodefrag/pro/
