Tomorrow im goin to buy some ram and recently a friend sed there r diff types and i need to know which is compatible with my system. Is there any way to find out wat type of ram i need? Thank you very much in advance.

go to crucial.com and they have a tool that will analyze your system and determine what kind you need.

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php should tell you what type, most new motherboards are PC3200-ot old computers PC2100..or if you have a dell look at you manuel beacuse most of there ram is made by there companyComment

EG. if you already have a 512MB stick that runs at DDR333 and you add another 512 stick at DDR400, your system will still only run at DDR333.
So if you already have 512MB running at DDR400 then that would be a good choice!!

I would get a 1GB stick and try to run 1.5GB rather than 1GB... RAM is pretty cheapComment

High quality ram is far for being cheap. You can get some crap 1gb PQI PC-3200 ram that dosent clock at all . But when you want some good stuff like G.Skill, Crucial, Corsair, Mushkin - PC-4000 up to 4800 then it will cost you a lot.Originally posted by Consultant01Comment

If I were you, I'd just ebay that 512 stick and get 2 1GB modules tested to run in dual channel. It will cost a little more, but will probably run better since they are identical. Plus you will have a full 2GB of memory.Comment

First you need to know what type of RAM you need. Then you need to go to the Euro equivalent to pricewatch.com where you can compare some prices. Ebay can have some good deals sometimes but it's good to be able to compare.
Post your system specs so all the experts will know what you have. It's not a bad idea to include your system specs in your signature. That way it's always there in case you are asking a question.
