Is SLI worth it with BF2????

I've got an SLI capable vid card and mobo.

My card is a 6800GT SLI 256mb.

I was thinking of getting a second and running it in SLI mode but I read through some reports on Toms Hardware that dual cards suffered an FPS hit in some games, although BF2 wasn't part of the test software.

I can get a used card for around $100 or so.

Should I??

I'd have to agree. Your $100 would best be spent on the higher end card. If only SLI actually gave double the performance with dual cards, then it would be a viable alternative.

for bf2? no. only if you have a GIGANTIC moniter. its not worth it for this game and most other games unless you have a big moniter for higher resolutions.

Would you count a 24" as a big monitor? I've got an SLI rig with a pair of 7800GTX's and think it is totally worth it. My performance in BF and in 3DMark is noticeably improved by SLI. Is it double? No, it isn't. The actual performance increase is about 33% better.

24" is a massive monitor. They are usually 1920x1200 resolution. Most regular people still have 17" or 19" CRTs and LCDs. That means 1024x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024 and a few 1600x1200.

I've got a 24" and a 19". Obviously you can't push both of them when in SLI. But you ought to see Half Life 2 in 1920X1200 (or is it 1250?) at max video settings. It is awesome and the best excuse I have for SLI.

I can see HL2 at 2560x1600... cant play it like that but it looks kinky.

As said SLI is only worth it at higher resolutions, a single card should cope with a 1280x1024 all by its self so a second card in that situation would have nothing to do but to slow things down by splitting the data between the two cards.

Sell your current card, and with the $100 in your pocket buy a newer single card that exceeds the 6800gt's in SLI.

Like they said, SLI is for extreme resolutions only. And that requires a large monitor. 19" doesn't quite cut it in regards to "large" these days.

Sell your card and buy a 7900GT... I did it and the game is much faster now.
