How much are you willing to spend, you might need a whole new pc upgrade

A jump from a FX5500 to a 7800gt is a big and worth it leap, well for me it was

FX5500 is agp only, I doubt he'd get a 7800gt to fit. Besides the celeron would bottleneck it anyway.

From the looks of your rig mate, you will need to change the lot.

If you are up for building your own, then post your rough budget and ill see what i can reccomend.

PS. Cant wait for my 7800gt to return from RMA, i really want to play again (not this p.o.s Radeon X300)

Have a friend with a similar rig and he considers it to be unplayable.

Celeron - Yeuch, get an AMD64
768Mb RAM - too low, get 2Gb
5500 AGP - too slow, get a 6600 or better

I think you should just invest in a 6800GS since it's affordable and runs BF2 superb.

I can run everything high on 1280x1024 with 2XAA and get avg. 80 fps, and when I up the AA to 4 I get around 60 FPS.

My Specs are:
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ @ 2.4 ghz
MOBO: ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe(don't ask why I got the SLI version since I wont be using another card) just thought it'd be cool to have SLI MOBO
MEM: 1.5(3x512) GB of Kingston HyperX PC3200 @ 400MHZ but since the SLI-DELUXE doesn't like using more than 2 mem. slots to keep up with 400 MHZ I think it runs at 222 or 333 don't remember right now(Should of just went with 2x1GB of Kingston HyperX PC3200 so I could run it @ 400 mhz).
GFX: Palit GeForce 6800GS Super 512 MB @470/1.17.

I can also run all the currents games(Besides Oblivion 4: Elder Scrolls or whatevr it is) it gets a bit choppy with everything high.

I know I won't need another upgrade untill games start to require DX10, which wont be for a long time. If more advanced games come out I know I won't be running with everything high, but I really don't care.

I had a PCI FX5500 256mb

FX5500 is agp only, I doubt he'd get a 7800gt to fit. Besides the celeron would bottleneck it anyway.

Thats why i said a whole pc upgrade

OMG i had a smiliar system, i ran everything low but i kept geomerty and textures on high. Save up some cash and get something better, its worth it.

i've got a horrible ati 9550, n i have everthing on low except draw distance. anything better n i will teleport around the map. (((

I used to play it on a FX5900 which had been BIOS flashed to a FX5950 Ultra.

Then i overclocked it quite high. The game still played crap. Everything on low (apart from Draw Dist) and i would get massive startup lag about 5 mins into the game.

Basicly, with the new 7800GT im getting it should play well i hope, I already have 2Gb of Corsair RAM, so thats not a problem.

Anyone have any comments as to how well the 7800 runs?

It will run it, it will run on as low as an FX5200, it just won't run very well. 800x600 all setings on low.

No video card will be good with a celeron holding it back. Get a whole new pc, is what i recommend. Not worth upgrading anythign in your current one.

i got a gforce 6600gt runs bf2 nice! all settings on medium tho 100% view distance.

Lol, if you hadn't overclocked the card, it wouldn't have been overheating and getting slowed down by the driver, and would have gone faster.
