Not sure what to do!?!

Well I finally got a new monitor (Samsung 204B 20" @ 1600x1200 Native Resolution) and I'm a little unsure about it mostly because I've seem to have hit a performance blow with this big resolution. For example, on my old 17" CRT @ 1024x768 I was playing everything high 6xAA and I had no problem with 64man intense action went down to mid 40's maybe! but now with this new monitor I average 50-90fps in regular play with no AA on in a 32man, but in 64man intense action it drops to very noticable low 30 to high 20's. Changing my video settings doesn't help with the FPS that much so I am proposing taking back my monitor and ordering a new one such as the Viewsonic VX922 (VX924 doesn't have 0 dead pixel guarantee) which is a 19" with a native resolution of 1280x1024. and what I am asking is if you guys think it would be worth going for a smaller monitor with lower resolution which might help with my performance? For I only use my computer for gaming, watching a view videos from the media section and such and websurfing. It's just that my 204b offers so much stuff like Portrait mode, regular landscape mode and the tons of movement (up and down, tilt and a built in Lazy susan) and alot of space on my desktop. I'm just asking this because I'm totally new to LCD's this is my very first one and I only got a short period of time before I can take it back. Thanks in advance for your input!

You shouldn't be having problems running at that res with a 1900xt IMO. I have no idea what could be wrong.

Are you running at native res? That's prob why you have the drop in fps, but like jimmy said, something else is wrong with your comp.

Yes I'm running it at native resolution 1600by1200 at 60hz, on my desktop and ingame.

P.S I'm here all night. I'll stay on the site.

such as? my mobo and bios are all new. not sure what the new ATI drivers are

That could be the problem, when was the last time you updated your drivers?

my drivers are catalyst 6.4 I don't think it's been to long maybe a month ?

Edit - updating monitor drivers + cleaning out older ati drivers and installing new 6.5

Wow what a nice clean and tidy computer area you have.
Change your refresh rate to 75 or better. It will stop you getting headaches and sore eyes. The lower refresh rate isn't good for long periods looking at a screen.

It's an LCD, refresh rates don't matter as much on them, there is no flicker as with CRTs.
