According to the reviews I've seen so far, it performs right about at the same level as 2 7900gt's in SLI. Quad-SLI works like poo though

A minimum 450W system power supply (with 12V current rating of 27A or more)

anyone else think that rating is WAY too low as stated.

This is the only part I don't like DirectX® 9.0

I'm saving my coins to get a DirectX® 10.0 compatible card when they are available. So far my cheapo 7800GT is serving darn well in every game.

What's the point of wasting money on DX9 cards when DX10 is around the corner IMO

Agreed. But BF2 or 2142 will not take advantage of DX10. But I am reserving my $$$ for DX10 AM2 system, Spring 2007

but thats so far away:cry: Im pretty ****ed off about my decision to build a new computer last month. I wish i would of been active in these forums so i would have been more educated, then could of waited and purchased an am2/ddr2 rig instead of nforce 4/ 939. :cry: :cry: :cry:

I think I would like to have one of those, but I will have to use one of the compatible motherboards with the right bios to make it work. The rest of the computer will have to be able to keep up.

I dont care what you say about power. I already have a 1 Kilowatt power supply with a Case for it planned for the next machine that will use 64 bit. It is my belief that once Microsoft releases Direct X 10; video cards will eventually adapt and improve.

I am looking forward to gaming to the max in the future. The only problem is lack of Fiber Optics. That is the last stone in the temple of gaming.

Maybe someone here can educate me, but how come GPU's are what they are...let me explain: Why can't a vid card use a standard CPU to process graphics? Why can't a vid card manuf just slap an AMD or INTEL chip on a graphics card and run at 3.0ghz? What is so special about GPU that a CPU cannot be made to do the same job?

Just image...updating your video card with a chip, not the whole card! Slow down, just slap a new chip in it!

The gpu isnt the only important thing. You cant forget about the memory. What happens if newer faster ram comes out, like ddr4

Well i'm not arguing exclusively on the overkill point. I believe SLI is generally overkill as well, but what diswades me from buying into this stuff is the ineficiencies of the design, and the general issues that crop up.

I applaud nvidia for finally releasing an HDCP compatible card, and finally opening up SLI to non nvidia chipsets, but thats about all I like of this "video card" if you can call it a single card.

It's two 7900's slapped together, and half the ram is unaddressable, multimonitor use is disabled in SLI mode, and much like Intel's current dualcore chips, its two single core designs forced into one ugly package. The increase from one core to another is only in the 30-50% range, instead of the 90%+ that one would theoretically hope for.

Once GPU's catch up to CPU's will this stuff be a real value. Once a multicore GPU can share one pool of ram, and communicate as a single unit instead of using the PCIe bus, and SLI bridge, will this technology be truely impressive.

I agree to a point, but all of the ram is addressable. Half goes to each core, all 1gb is used. Dual 7900gt's perform better than a single gx2, plus they cost less.

You will need System Ram (Motherboard) to reach GDDR3 levels.

I wonder if dual video cards using 512 each will out run a single one of these 1 gig monsters?

Yes, because the 7950 gx2 is basically two downclocked 7900gtx's. Thats it.

Its the same as 2x 7900GTX, total of 1GB ram, but only 512 is used for the frame buffer.

Ah, I see your point now. You are completely correct, I wish they would stop marketing it as a 1gb card when in reality its two seperate 512mb ones.
