PLease help an idiot choose a graphics card!

Im an idiot when it comes to PC hardware (i have a basic knowledge but thats all)

I want a card that will play games on high settings (such as BF2 and half life 2 etc.) I want the card to last me a while.

I have a budget of £200 (pounds) (could maybe stretch a little further if i really have to - not much though)

I was thinking about a 7900GT would this work on my system without having to change anything else?

So please help me

Yes 7900GT will work, but your PSU might be too weak. What wattage it it and what is the amperage on the +12v rail?

There should be a sticker on the side on the PSU (the box with all the wires coming out of it).

crap i cant open my case at the moment - its getting late and i cant be bothered.
I dont even no how my case opens - its the first time i have done anything like this before.

looking at the back of my case it says 230 V next to what i think is the fan for my PSU.

I looked at your first post and clicked reply...well im going with a 7900GTX GPU and im getting a 550W PSU. I would expect you would need a PSU of 500W+ imo

just saw that 230v , its not going to cut it. Get a new psu thats stronger.

The 230v has nothing to do with anything.

I'm sorry gatorade, but you have no idea what you're talking about. The 230v is just the input voltage, and has nothing to do with output wattage or output =12V.

i have opened my case and its says 19 A (does that sound about right?)
so how will my PSU handle it?

It would be good to know just how much wattage you actally have, it might be higher than 300w. But no, that is not enough for a 7900gt. You want a bare minimum of 400w (I'd suggest 450 just to be safe) and 20 amps on the 12v rail.
