Not sure of this problem

I've been trying to play bf2 for a while now but have to many problems. Started out playing in game it would crash, either by blue screen, complete restart, or complete freeze up and a hellishly high ping noise through my speakers. Then problem slowly moved to my desktop killing windows whenever it felt like e.g. clicking explorer or my computer (Completely random). Blue screen stop errors were the only freeze that ever help, half of them might come up with "Video driver stopped" or "Driver IRQL Not Less Or Equal". Reinstalled my Cat to 6.5 update, and google search IRQL and followed their fixes. No such luck. So I quit for a while and thought about reinstalling windows, turns out I've lost the disc and $300 for a new one I'm going to try and avoid, and I've so many install downloads and CDs to lose.

Can anyone help? Now that I've got my computer going on windows (Crashs a 10th of previous), but I'd still like to play bf2.

Specs.. AMD anthlon 64 bit 3400+, 1GB Ram, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro gfx, Audigy 2 ZS sfx

I changed my Internal memory from system to custom and that seemed to help. 1534Mb initial (Recommended), 45000Mb max (Close to Available). System set it to 1535Mb ? probably why IRQL not less or equal..

Also. I've done a disc defrag, checked for all 'known' viruses with AVG, used CCleaner for extras, run Xoftspy for spyware, uninstalled almost everything I didn't use often / games rarely played and gained 40Gb back, disc defrag again, and updated catalyst driver.

Unfortunately "Driver IRQL Not Less Or Equal" almost always means a hardwarde issue; either some settings are incorrect or the actual hardware is malfunctioning. The real problem is that there's no way to pinpoint which piece of hardware it's refering to, at least that I know of. Hopefully it's just an IRQ sharring error, however its unlikely since irq sharing usually just gives a slight peformance hit, not an actual system crash.

Now, the game will not affect the rest of your system. That's not negotiable. I've never once heard of someones bf2 making other windows options unstable.

If you're saying just bf2 crashes, then thats one thing, but if you're saying that you're Windows environment is unstable regardless of whether you start bf2 or not, then theres another, much larger, problem to face. This is why partitions help. I'd suggest a new windows install, which honestly only takes about 45 minutes including downloding windows updates and validifying your cd key, but if you havent partitoned then you have a lot of stuff to install afterwards...

Thanks, cleared up a few things for me. IRQL was a blank. Windows is unstable, I'm just trying to run BF2 but nevermind. If / when I reinstall windows, how would that fix faulty hardware? Oh well, will try when I find the XP disc then. I'm just glad to have windows running again long enough that I can pull alot of installs onto a disc before reinstalling. And maybe have a way to fix this, but nevermind.
What else would you need to help? or should I post a reply once reinstalled?

Edit: All hardware settings and drivers settings are default / unchanged since install

Update: CD drive no longer works. Need a fic for that too hahaha else I can't run an XP reinstall :cry:
